| I have a friend who recently got his CFI - single engine. He has a guy who wants him to fly with him in his own Cherokee 140. Not towards a rating just wants to fly for fun and keep current in case he gets his medical back. The owner is a Private Pilot however he lost his medical due to a medication. My question is: Can the owner and the CFI both log PIC (the owner obviously logging dual received) without the owner having a valid medical. |

| Yes. A medical is required to act as PIC, not to log it.

| Yep. The answer to all the logging PIC issues is in 61.51(e). Unless one of the categories there requires you to also be a required crewmember (I think that only one - acting as PIC the two pilot crew -does) there is no requirement for a medical or currency of any kind for logging PIC. |
