Default PIC without a medical

I have a friend who recently got his CFI - single engine.

He has a guy who wants him to fly with him in his own Cherokee 140. Not towards a rating just wants to fly for fun and keep current in case he gets his medical back. The owner is a Private Pilot however he lost his medical due to a medication. My question is: Can the owner and the CFI both log PIC (the owner obviously logging dual received) without the owner having a valid medical.

Yes. A medical is required to act as PIC, not to log it.

If the pilot is appropriately rated he can log PIC time, while receiving dual instruction from an Instructor with a medical(which has to act as PIC and can log as PIC)...

Yep. The answer to all the logging PIC issues is in 61.51(e). Unless one of the categories there requires you to also be a required crewmember (I think that only one - acting as PIC the two pilot crew -does) there is no requirement for a medical or currency of any kind for logging PIC.
