I had 3 race jugs and 15 gallons of AvGas stolen last night off my jetski trailer. The punks must have came by late at night and thought "Free Gas". Any idea what woul happen if you put AvGas in a car/truck's engine? |

| People used to come out to the airport to buy 100 octane for their hotrods all the time when I was a line boy. Autogas has progressively been reduced in octane rating, and uses a different rating system which also impacts things.

| Old Skool | There is alot of lead in the 100LL (Low Lead). Older engines might be ok using it, but dont think it would do any newer unleaded engines any good.

The tetraethyl lead ppm content of 100 LL is very high (way higher than older leaded "regular" gas) The lead is going to play hell with a newer car in the emissions controls (catayltic converter and O2 sensor) and will build up in injector systems if used heavily. Modern street cars don't have high enough compression engines to need anything beyond about 94 octane anyways.

Heck, the guys I used to sell gas to came to the airport where I worked because the other one had JUST gotten the 100LL (it didn't exist when I learned, it was all 100/130). You think 100LL is high, imagine 100/130, the green stuff! Then there was the purple fuel, 115/145, which was just getting hard to find when I started flying.... We sold two kinds, 80/87 and 100/130, but the car guys didn't want the 80/87, even though that is about the same as current premium. |

Shoot.......I was hoping you guys would tell me it would screw up their engine. Then when the highway patrol comes to check on them on the side of the highway they see the 3 stolen race tanks in the back of their car/truck. Oh well what can you do. Hopefully karma does its job.

It will, eventually. The lead will play havoc wiht the catalytic convertor, fuel injectors, and O2 sensor.

I ran 100LL in my '89 Caprice for about 4 months. Maybe I "quit" just in time. :P
