At what altitude does the even500 for west and odd500 east rule apply for vfr flight?

As long as you are either turning or climbing/descending, then you dont have to comply with the rule.

I once flew about 50 miles on the wrong 'cardinal' heading VFR and when I finally figured it out I fessed up to the controller who was giving me traffic advisories.. all he said to me was "yeah, I'm keeping an eye on you" in a freindly tone

there was a 90 degree wind change between 3 and 6k and i usually do 4500 feet for the xc the DE asked for. but given the circumstances and teh favorarable 3k wind, i did 2500... he asked me when the^^^^^^ rule applied, and i didnt know. he said he'll ask me next time he sees me

I may be wrong but I think that at 2500 MSL then the rule wuld only apply if you are flying over the Dead Sea.... not turning.. not climbing..

at 3,000ft AGL the hemisperical alt. rule does not apply. It starts above 3,000ft AGL and below 18,000ft MSL.

lol well then i guess in the case of a student pilot they dont really need to worry whether they are on the correct altitude or not. i cant seem to get them to stop going up and down along with right and left

that's right. for student pilots (and me in the EMB-170 sim right now) it only really applies when the autopilot is on!!!
