| Old Skool | I was planning some flights I intend to take when I'm done with my TDY at Andrews AFB. Anyhow, one flight is to Atlantic City (Bader) (AIY), and the other is to Chesapeake (CPK). I want to fly to Bader and hit up the casinos before Bader closes, and I've always wanted to fly down the DelMarVa peninsula (a route taken MANY times to visit family in VA Beach from Dover, DE). My question is this: With both Atlantic City, and Norfolk, there is a box saying Quote:
... is it contact approach within 20nm of the primary airport, or within 20nm of the outer ring of the Class C airspace? I tried looking in the AIM last night and didn't find anything. It's not likely to be an issue as I usually get flight following and would get passed on to the proper controller, but was curious for understanding the charts better.

| You'll find that note near (almost?) all class C airspace. It's within 20 NM of the primary. Look at the chart. The outer ring of the Class C is 10 NM from the primary. All the chart note is asking is that, if you are planning to fly into the Class C airspace, be courteous and call them 10 miles before you get there so that they can make room for you if necessary. |

If flying through, contact before airspace penetration. Do you have to contact them if your flying above?
