Why do some airports use K in their identifier and airports with numbers do not? P.S. I know K is the ICAO code for the 48 contiguous States, and Y is for Canada, etc..... Just want to know why when I have something like L12, E63, etc...You don't use the K? |

Those airports aren't coded by ICAO at all, so it's just something for the U.S.

Typically if an airport has a NAV aid and/or weather reporting it will get an all letter identifier and then get the preceding "K"...

I'm pretty sure Canada uses 'C' - CYYZ, CYQB, CYOT, CYHZ Jason |
