| Agent Smith | From: MikeD: ...Was tossing this idea around a bit while thinking up a title for the story section. How about a section devoted to flight safety? ....Since a number of folks on the forum are 'new guys' just getting into the game, or low-time CFIs, I was thinking a section I could host where about every week or two, I detail the anatomy of a particular accident; the focus of which is the varying causal factors that hopefully some of these guys can take away with them. ...There's tons of accidents, from mil to airline to GA, to choose from, and my familiarity with most of them (aside from the "everyday" GA) is pretty good. Maybe be able to put that Bill Waldock and AF safety training to work. I was envisioning a forum where I could post, and only replys to the posts could be made in order for discussion to occur. What da ya think? Useful? Or shelve it? I thought the idea was brilliant! So here we are! |

| Mike, I think Doug's jerking your chain, by the way. Check what the acronym for this forum would be. Or was that your suggestion? |

| For my first few analyses of aircraft accidents, I plan to intermix accidents that I have a personal knowlege or familiarity with. In my time, from youngin to now, I've been involved in some way with aviation. Because of that, I've witnessed, heard first-hand, or saw the immediate aftermath of several aircraft accidents and incidents over the years. Each of these has a lesson or two to be learned from them. Everything from discovering new techniques to accomplish a particular task, to new flight rules written in blood.....each aircraft accident has multiple points to learn from. The problem is, rarely are we finding new ways to crash aircraft. So in that sense, it can be said that most aircraft accidents have factors that some of us need to learn due to inexperience. For the experienced pilot, we don't necessarily need to re-learn some of these factors, but need to reinforce them, since they've likely taken a backseat in the brain over time Either way, if something isn't learned or re-learned from an aircraft accident, then the accident itself and any fatalities involved, have been for not. |

Needless to say, the FAA changed it and ice pellets is now...uh whatever it is now. |
