I was reading a METAR yesterday, and a dollar symbol appeared at the end of it. There is no reference to the symbol in any of my books. I don't have a FAR/AIM to look at currently. $?

It means its broken somehow and in need of maintenance. Sorry, don't have a reference for you though.

I was thinking that also that it meant it need mtc on it.

It means the guy who owns the metar station is going to have to open up his wallet to fix it.
