| That is just amazing to me.... The last flight school I taught at was willing to let me walk away because I wouldnt sign a 1-year contract (and this was after working there 3 months). Would you hire a CFI/CFII if you know he/she would only stay for +/- 6 months? So many schools need instructors yet they don't want to settle for the time (however short) they can get out of a CFI. ![]() |

| Senior Member | We pay WAYYY over the industry standard in order to keep quality instructors around. I didn't have a problem keeping instructors until recently when they all started qualifying for turboprop corporate and charter jobs. Making a choice between a Kingair 350 and flight instructing is easy at that point! Michael |

| How many hours a month can one get at Skymates instructing? How much is Multi? What does it pay? Is there a contract? Same questions for CPS. Knock schools like ATP, but these answers are published. WAY above industry standard this month is probably WAY below industry standard next month the way things seem to be going. |

| Personally no as I am but a lowly IFR student right now. I was just thinking that making the pay public would help your cause a little. Maybe, maybe not. |

| Pay is $17 hr. for flight and ground. No contract. How many hours can you fly per month?.....As many as you want, trust me. I usually flew around 100 per month, but there was one month that I flew 130. You will have as many students as you can handle, and you set your own schedule. It is truly is up to you as to how many hours you want to bill each month. You won't find a more easy going group of people than the folks at Skymates. No place is perfect, but I can guarantee you that you will like the people that you work with.

| Ok, so on average...how much flight-time per week/month can a CFI/I/MEI expect to get if he is available roughly 5 days a week? All day on 3 of those days and only after 4pm on the other 2... And how much multi-time can a CFI count on? I know these would all be estimates but I am trying to get an idea for both living expenses and time building. I am going to Skymates next week to begin CFI training. That should last 2 months then I will begin instructing out there. At that point I will quit my current job so that I can focus on Instructing and finishing up College; I go to UNT up in Denton. So seeing as how flight instructing out at Skymates will be my only source of income I was hoping to get an idea of pay/hours. Thanks for all the help!

| No..but I don't see any reason why I wouldn't instruct out there. Besides, Luca pretty much said that I would have a job after training since they like to hire their own students; and they currently are hurting for instructors as this entire thread confirms. But anyways, does anybody have any ideas to the questions I asked above? Thanks!

| Old Skool | It's really gonna depend on what kind of students you get and how you schedule them. When I first started, ME time was kinda hard to come by. By about month #2, I was flying in the Seminole all the time. I had over 200 ME before I had 700TT, actually. You set your schedule, so it's really up to you and your students. Flying all day probably won't be a problem for the 3 days. The after 4 pm stuff might be a bit more challenging. I suggest using that time for your instrument students if you have them. You never know what kind of daylight you're going to get, and (except for the night requirements) that can hinder some of the VFR training. If you've got students that prefer flying in the evening, save those spots for them, too. You can also use that time to get the night reqs of your PPL and Comm students met.

| Thanks Kellwolf! In my post above I actually typed wrong; I ment to say that I will be available 7 days a week, all day on 5 of those days and only after 4pm on the other 2. That is because on Tuesdays and Thursdays I have classes up at UNT until 3:20. But that is a good idea about getting the night flights in on those two days, and the instrument students as well. Basically I am super excited about becoming an instructor...not just any instructor but one for Skymates! A few weeks ago I met an Expressjet pilot named Chad out at DFW who said he was an Instructor at Skymates. He loves that school and said I made the best decision by training and instructing there. He also went on and on about how great Expressjet is which made me want to apply to them even more. Can't wait to meet all you guys up there soon. BTW: I attempted to contact Ryan all day today but each time nobody could find him It was actually amusing because each time I called they would put me on hold to go get him, then they would come back and say they looked but couldn't find him! Where does Ryan hide when he is not flying?? I'll try calling him again tomorow.

So I would say easily between 80-100 a month if you are open on the 5 days. | |

| Nice...80-100 hours a month is really good. At $17/hour that would keep me afloat financially. Plus that would be some great flight time building. How much of that would you estimate would be multi time? I will see you guys out there next Friday, 8/31. It will be my multi-addon then my CFI ratings ( Double I and MEI) then on to instructing! ![]()
