Default Getting in... my chances?

So currently i'm a highschool senior and I aspire to pursue a career in Air Traffic Control. I'm looking at entering purdue's aviation management program and then onto the FAA academy.

I'm planning to apply in the fall, but I'm just worried about being admitted, I've come here to find out what you all think are my chances at getting in...

My GPA is like a 2.8 - 3.0. SAT scores are 480 math, 590 critical reading, and 580 writing. My extra-curriculars include: Track, and Symphony Orchestra. I also have done 55 hours of communty service.

In addition it might be important to add that I attended a rigorous college prep school for the majority of highschool, which pretty much ruined my GPA. I've taken 2 AP's as well. I also plan to retake the SAT in October. And I'm an out of state student (FL).

Anyway so that's what the university will see when I apply... but is it good enough? I want to know if it's realistic to think I can get in. Also if anyone has any insight or advice relating to the admissions process I would like please chime in.

But yeah, tell me what you guys think, just be honest... anything you might have to add to this thread will be greatly appreciated.

Default Re: Getting in... my chances?

Hey, good to see a new applicant on here.

I'm in flight. When I applied, all Purdue looked at was my transcript and SAT scores. Extracurriculars, sadly, had no bearing on admission. However, that may have changed.

I was told that if I got a 1300 on my SAT, I'd have my foot in the door. I got into flight with a 1300 and 3.7 (4.6 weighted, if it matters).

As for management, judging by the mental abilities of the folks on that side of the house, as well as a few ex-girlfriends, you should be OK. However, unless your GPA is closer to that 3.0, I'd aim for a 1200 on your next SAT.

I'd also recommend calling the AT advising office (http://www.tech.purdue.edu/at) and speaking with one of the advisors about it. They generally won't be much help, but they might be able to provide a little insight. Further, they'll know that you're interested in the program, and that can't hurt.

PM me if youve got any more questions. Boiler up!

-Evan

Thank you. That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. If anyone has anything to add, don't hesitate to mention it.
