Default What is going on up there??

I made my semiannual trip north yesterday to see my favorite AME. I didn't really have any free time last time I was there so I made it a point this time to make the rounds and drive/walk around campus and visit all of my peeps at the AT department. It looked like 'Ops Normal' at the airport so I headed over to campus and was amazed at the building and modernization taking place - some of it good, some of it bad. I couldn't believe what they've done to the Union! I wasn't all that happy to see that new pizza place and that new shopping mall food court snack counter go in but I can live with that. I almost fainted when I saw that they had done away with the Sweet Shop and put in a Johhny Rockets knock off. I am glad to see they did retain that one room of Sweet Shop seating but taking the Sweet Shop out is bordering on the edge of sacrilege. Once I recovered from that I continued walking down the hall and what did I see?? - A freakin' Starbucks!! What has this world come too? I've always thought of the Union in particular as very stoic and rich with history - it was always easy to walk the halls and imagine yourself there decades before. I know President Jischke is on one huge building/money raising/making things better campaign but where will it stop? What's next - Harry's??? I hope they don't completley modernize away the charm and appeal of the campus. I guess times are changing - maybe I just need to catch up!

East Coaster suburbanite talking:

In my opinion, there was never any charm and appeal to this campus unfortunately. Look at Northwestern, Harvard, Wash U - that is charm and appeal It can only get better - and a Starbucks is a step in the right direction!

Purdue doesnt have a bad campus, I've seen worse. But a lot of it is a huge eyesore, so I'm glad to see some of the newer buildings coming up! Too bad I'll be long gone by the time theyre completed.
