Hey all... been absent for a bit travelling. I guess semi-aviation related since I used flight bennies to get over there. I fly with many, many people who for various reasons have never been anywhere on flight bennies... they are really missing out! Now squeezing yourself into an airplane for 2 days straight is not really gonna top everybody's list of things to do but even Mexico for a weekend is worthwhile. Anyway here are a few shots from the trip ![]() SFO food court: ![]() SFO gate: ![]() Singapore: ![]() Beer in Singapore airport: ![]() Air Asia enroute SIN-CGK (jakarta): ![]() Arrival in Jakarta (pollution) ![]() Road to the city: ![]() Working hard: ![]() Divide by about 10,000 for usd (really about 9500): ![]() Pretty different out there: ![]() More hard work: ![]() Called a bajbaj, Indonesian equivalent of the Thai tuktuk: ![]() Riding in it! In fact everything's pretty cheap there: ![]() Nighttime: ![]() Arrival in Bali, they let you walk right up to the plane, yes even aft of the wing: ![]() Sanur beach: ![]() They have tons of these in Bali, the shops all put them out in front of their stores... prayer offerings: ![]() Tanah Lot: ![]() Tanah Lot: ![]() Tanah Lot: ![]() Final shot of Tanah Lot, this thing is pretty photogenic: ![]() Tons of rice growing: ![]() Uluwatu, near some of the best surfing on the planet (too bad I suck at surfing and would probably drown) ![]() Life under a volcano: ![]() Waterfall into the hotel pool, it was NOT expensive accommodation, still there is no limit to what you could spend in bali if you wanted to: ![]() Leaving bali, starting the 35hr journey home: Last edited by E_Dawg; October 29th, 2009 at 17:15. Nice pictures. I want to go there. I remember my aunt saying it was among her favorite places in the whole world from a year long round-the-world trip she did a few years ago. I love those terraced farms!

Thanks... yeah it was pretty fun, wish I had more time there, the loads were getting bad towards the end so we got out while we could. Although I wouldn't call it a 'paradise', it is an island with 3.2 million people so it is crowded. And they have plenty of issues, garbage disposal one of them, the locals just burn their trash.... makes for a very unique smell and not the most healthy. Sidewalks in many places are non existent and roads while paved are too small, which means you end up walking on what is basically a single land road with two way traffic with tons of motorbikes dodging cars, pedestrians, and even horse carriages. ps I added 1 shot of tanah lot. |

Also if you don't look like a local you will literally be harassed walking down the street by hawkers selling anything from food, clothes, and even transportation around the island. Which means you're constantly saying 'no thanks' or simply ignoring them. Lots of aussies there and some of the local sellers even fake an AU accent to grab your attention "oy mate!"

| Air Asia rocks. I have flown them numerous times over the last 2yrs and their service has been actually improving as the prices remain dirt cheap. I think my ticket back from Bali to Singapore was like 15 bucks on economy promo. That's for a 2.5hr flight. The others were a bit more $ but all in all still a great deal.
