Default CLT 23 Arrival

Wahoo... I got my video codecs working again.

Look for the monkey cameo. That's Chuck Jr. by the way.

Nope! His is all black, seems more like a Kangol to me, but he still could be Jamaican becuase even my dad likes wearing Kangol and he is not a Rasta.

Couldn't tell, did you get down before the "hump"?

Nice video indeed. I agree, I wish more people would leave the original sound.

The reason for no audio... the appearance of a sterile flightdeck below 10K.

For Real.

The guy normally has his hair dreaded up and underneath a Rastafarian Hat. He's one of the better rampers in Charlotte.

If you don't hit the hump on 23 then the whole thing is a big "U". It's either hit the hump or watch the runway fall away from you in the flare. That said, looks like you got it down before the hump.

That's a tough runway. If you follow the glideslope down and plant it right where the slope touches the runway you will slam into the top of the hump. If you flare a bit at the end you end up floating forever as the runway drops out from underneath you. If you follow the PAPI down you end up well below the glideslope and often times get a "GLIDESLOPE... GLIDESLOPE" call out, which really isn't such a good thing to do with a fed on board.

I'm trying to remember, but I think in this case we went just past the hump but didn't float too far. It was the FOs leg and he'd just been flying the 700 for a few months, and was trying to stop flaring at 40 feet and wait until 10 feet.

If you look straight down some of the runways at ATL (I'm not really sure which ones), you will also see how they gently dip into the ground and form a "hump". Of course, I have no idea how the runways at ATL compare to Rwy 23 at CLT, but it is still interesting to note.

Did I ever tell you about the time I saw a 757 exit 23 @ Golf? Talk about tray-table imprints on the face.

I like the music and recognize the rasta-man.

I see more carrier landings on that runway than in any other around. Almost saw a Lufthansa scrape a wing the other day...

GS Cancel methinks. Good show.

I like to "three point" the hump on 23. I made Golf once but only on a bet.

The first 1000 feet of Roanoke's Runway 6 kick up pretty good.

Cool. Were there any instances where you, or anyone you know, didn't flare sufficiently enough when landing on that runway; resulting in a sudden "Wham!" as the aircraft hit the the runway?

Mesa planted one on the other runway there (33) back in 2001. The scary thing is nobody detected the airframe damage until about 4 flights later.

http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief2.asp?...02LA013&akey=1

It wasn't due to runway slope though. I've never seen anybody slam it in on ROA, but it happens all the time in Charlotte on 23.
