Default Trip to Kazakhstan

Hello everyone, been absent from the board lately. Just been really busy with a bunch of stuff and many of the places I have been to recently just did not have internet. Kinda like this place in Kazakhstan. The people were really friendly and it was the first time ever they have seen a Learjet 60 at the airport. According to Kazakhstan Aviation Authorities, because this airport is not listed as international we were required to have a navigator on board. Enjoy the pics.

A bit warm outside!

Our hotel...supposed to be 4-5 stars according to our contract. In my best Borat voice...VERY NICE!!!

The town!

Our navigator Alexi, really cool dude. He is a pilot and nav on the AN-12...pics below of that. This is inside the airport.

An authorization for flight on really old Aeroflot paper. As captain I was required to sign with understanding of the load, wx, and all NOTAMS pertinent to this flight. It was printed on old Soviet Aeroflot paper. Really cool.

Old AN-2 crop dusters.

The tarmac.

The only Lear 60 with 3 required crew members.

Artsy shot of the terminal behind the airplane.

An IL-76TD cargo plane. Us military guys know it as a C-141'ski

Nose of an AN-12. Known as the C-130'ski.

Ramp inide the AN-12

Flight deck shots of inside the AN-12. Alexi the navigator was super cool to get us inside one of the company birds and show us around. Like I said really friendly people.

The other Cappie's name doesn't happen to be Alain, does it? He looks like a guy in my recurrent class (he said he flies for NY Jets over there, and does some contract stuff).

Yup it is him. Contract guru out here. Cool guy and good stick. NY Jets is a holding company in Bermuda for this particular airplanes owner.

Does everyone now see how small aviation is? Joe from Florida goes to recurrent in Dallas and meets a Swiss pilot who flies in Russia. Everyone knows everyone.

Everyone knows everyone, it's a small, small world, seriously!

Very nice pictures man! Parts of the world that many of us probably wouldn't have a chance to see otherwise!

BTW, on your 767 Venice picture, depending on when you took it, I probably just talked to those guys in the pilot lounge the day before.

That pic was taken on 5/27/08. Our airplane was pretty much behind the DL 767 on the remote stands. They took off a few minutes before we did.

And just to add to this, the Swiss pilot is flying with a guy from California who went to Russia to fly, and who the Florida guy knows from the internet!! Go figure.

It's funny how many former Starcheckers I see out there now. I usually run into at least one person I know on every trip, no matter where it is. I ran into Walkenhorse (sp?) (for those older Starcheckers out there) in Chattanooga, TN the other day. My captain (the owner of the company) used to know everybody in aviation, and now he gets upset that he doesn't know anybody, but I run into all these old buds.

I ran into an old CFI from a flight school in Taunton, MA, where I did my CFI years ago, in Aspen; and an old CFI bud from Providence was now flying Lears and King Airs in Buffalo, NY. I was offered a job, but who wants to live in BUF???

Keep your friends and don't burn bridges. No matter what!!!

I'm loving that Lear jet. The An-12 has like a million gauges. Talk about confusing :b Nice pics btw. I would enjoy a trip to Kazakhstan.
