Red face World's shortest control tower

Well, doesn't take a lot of effort to get to the top, but I can say that you'll have much of a view!

I've seen one about that short, but it was a portable tower. They'd bring it into KTLR during the "International Farm Show" when traffic picked up.

Well, this one is portable now. From what I understand it is on its way to Vegas in a few days, some guy bought it and is going to make it into a bar!

I don't know why that tower reminded me of this song...

That's funny! Anyone know what happened to the cab from the old PHX tower? A controller at GEU told me that they were getting it but, I had heard that it never happened....

Two winners!!!!!

This was our old beloved tower here at KDVT.

They hacked it up in a day, and now it is on its way out. I seriously doubt that any part of it will be going to KGEU, they completely gutted out the inside prior to cutting it up. Also, like I said about, the tower's top was sold to a bar owner in Vegas.

The tower is actually laying on its side, next to the top.

Thats crazy I was just there last Saturday and my instructor and I were commenting how much shorter it was compared to the new tower (before it was taken down). BTW we sat holding short for over 45 minutes saturday I was so supprised how busy it was compared to my home airport KTUS which i'm usually airborne within ten mins of starting the airplane.

Here's a new(?) version of a RSU (Runway Supervisory Unit). The old ones sat flat on the ground so were about half this height.

Hey! I see you made your commuter flight!

What is the function of those at military airfields?

They are used primarily at UPT and fighter bases where two or three runways are controlled. Typically in a three runway ops, the center runway may be the instrument runway and controlled by tower, and the outer and inner runways each have a RSU unit controlling, with another RSU unit monitoring the center runway as well. Usually manned by Instructor Pilots of the type aircraft primarily using that runway, they control the VFR pattern and provide supervisory assistance in case of aircraft or student problems. One of the more dreaded calls a solo T-38 student can hear, "FLARE, GO AROUND, USE BURNER, VANCE CENTER MOBILE ON GUARD" I'd call that a surface to air bust.

Three a/c units for such a small building or are they to keep the electronics cooled down. Just seems like overkill for such a small building.

Both, plus these things have glass ceilings as well, so it needs quite a bit of cooling power in the summers in GA, MS, OK and TX.

Here's my contribution, the tower/booth at KEKO. It's closed now, I think they got tired of climbing all those stairs...
(sorry it's fuzzy, we were taxiing)

I remember back in KCOE when we had a busy fire season, they had a temporary tower. Which was really a trailer they put on a pile of dirt. It was cool to have to talk to ground and tower though.

Man that was a long time ago.
