Default PHL 26 Approach

Yes, I know there is a youtube section, but I took this myself. I got a new camera and it has VIDEO mode! Wahoo. All ya need is an interesting approach and some dramatic music and you are good to go.

Things to keep in mind...

Obviously, I was in the jumpseat when I took this as I would never film during a leg I was working.

The camera just APPEARS to be sitting up on the glare shield on the captain's side because the FO was busy flying. Of course the FO couldn't actually be flying because it's a landing on 26 in PHL which per our FOM is limited to captain's only.

Yes, those cranes really are that close to the airplane. It's just part of landing on 26.

We really weren't as far to the right of the center line on roll out as it looks. We were in fact to the right (due to the 15 knot crosswind unexpectedly disappearing at 10 feet.

So, now you know (and knowing is half the battle)... enjoy.

Ive sat through that approach many times, usually from UNV-PHL on awac.

Good Vid, you can see alot of stuff if you know anything about the area. We came in there about the 3rd of July and you could see alot of fireworks over the water from the city. Pretty badass.

Just did that approach tonight. Neat to see what it looks like in the daytime.

The first time my SIC did it he didn't realize the localizer was offset a little. When we popped out of the clouds and he wasn't lined up with the runway he was like "Man, do I really suck this bad?!"

Cool Video. That's my favorite part of flying into PHL all of the time...landing on 26 and 35. Much more interesting than 27R, especially when you have a good crosswind and are at max landing weight!

Landing runway 35 behind ATI's DC-8, or 757 through wake turbulence. That is fun.

I had to go back and watch it again. Yup, you can still make out the runways!

Yeah, the Kidd(DDG-993) and the Detroit(AOE-4) are both in there too. That was mine and my wifes boat...sad to see it just rotting away in there.

Which one was that, the Kidd or the "Dirty D"?

nice vid! I'm fond of that approach..see it all the time except to 27R instead. Its a nice view in the evening if the weather is nice..flying right over the Walt Whitman and seeing all the sports stadiums to your right as well. Thanks for posting!

I heard from a buddy who did a cruise on the "D" that there was like a roving clique of queens (not the female type!).

I never saw that (lol maybe I nor she was really looking) but since there were women and men aboard the ship, they came back from their Med Cruise in 97 with a good case of VD and crabs running rampant on the boat. Pulled into the shipyards in Philly for refit and no one could live onboard for 2 weeks to remove the "infestation" as they put it.
