Default A few Cross Country Pictures from Houston

I've been visiting my folks in Houston for the holidays and managed to do some flying while I was out here as well. It has been very special for me since I flew out of the very same airport that I took my very first discovery flight from when I was 8 years old. It was a dream to return as a pilot!

Here are some shots from the cross country from Sugarland (SGR) to Galveston (GLS) and back via a tiny airfield called Westheimer (O07) --smallest runway Ive landed on...28ft. wide! They were taken by my photographer, copilot and fiance, Nadia. It was a great flight! If anyone is in the Houston area, I really recommend Anson Air out of Sugarland airport for flight training and plane rental. They are great folks there, have very well kept planes, good instructors, and very good schedule availability!

Looking back at SGR after takeoff

My parents neighborhood of Pecan Grove

Turning base for Westheimer

Going to land on sidewalk 11

Taxiway is REALLY small

Texas pride!

Some Houston skyline

My finance holding it straight and level

Im the luckiest guy in the world to have a fiance that loves to fly! She is going to be my first student once I get my CFI

Short final for GLS

Our trusty 533SJ.

Just after takeoff from GLS, beautiful scenery

Funky manmade housing in Galveston

Short final for 17 at SGR. My hometown airport as a kid!

That is a narrow runway, but next time you are down that way, head over to Weiser Airpark. I flew in there at night the first time. The runway and taxiway are not quite as narrow, but the challenge is all freeway and everything at the approach end. I thought I was gonna land on top of a chevy one night!

The pic of short final to 17 at SGR brings back lots of memories for me. Rarely saw it in the daytime though. Awesome pics.

Great shots!

Some unasked for and probably unwanted advice -- never teach your wife/fiance to play golf....never teach her to fly. Let someone else have the priviledge. Your relationship will last much longer.

Have some more photos here from another cross country from Sugarland to Brenham (11R). It was a nice quick flight, but bumpy as hell the whole way. Brenham has a fantastic restaurant though. Best chicken fried chicken ever...and the shakes were made with good old locally made Blue Bell Ice Cream! While we were there I met one of the pilots for a beautiful Saberliner and he allowed my fiance and I to hop inside for a quick look.

By the way, while I was here in Texas I also got to take my mom for a quick flight for the first time. My whole family has flown with me except for her. This was a huge deal since she is absolutely terrified to fly but was the one that was nice enough to drive my to Sugarland airport almost every day when I was a kid to watch planes and meet pilots. I'm proud she was brave enough to go up with me, and really happy that she enjoyed the experience!

Anyway, here are the shots.

I regonize the galveston and brenham airport. I have flowng into them both. I learned to fly at CXO up in Conroe. One of my best flights in the Houston area is my friend and I flew from CXO to HOU and asked approach for permission to lap downtown a few times. That was amazing! One day I'll take time to post the pictures.
