Default Zurich, Switzerland

Sealed the fate of our trip around the world by making it to Zurich from Bangkok. The only way to get back home now is west. A 6hr time zone difference on the last flight which means that on my 5th trip to Europe, it's finally easy for me to wake up to see the sun rise.

Zurich is quite the contrast from Bangkok. It feels like a small European town despite it being an international destination. Probably the most charming city we've been to. We're ready to head back and will try tomorrow, the last time I've seen my place was Dec 10th.

Night view of the city

some hardcore chess, despite the weather

the most expensive city we've been to

street vendor. on the menu? Chestnuts

random building shot

they enjoy their lights here

No I'm pretty sure the market was closed after Dec 24. We went there with no plan whatsoever, the only city we didn't plan for which was a much needed break from all that work. We pretty much chilled out, walked around, had coffee/beer, and walked around some more!

Thanks again for the comments, here are a few more:

ZRH is seriously a sleepy town. That, combined with being jet lagged as hell meant I was wide awake as the parties were ending around 5am. So it was a great time for some night shots, especially after it rained. In winter the sun doesn't rise until after 8am, and people don't start coming out until 11 or 12 noon.

Wow! Great shots! I used to shoot like this as well, but I obviously need to invest in a nice digital SLR... all of my photos are on slide and film. On another note, if Americans would like to visit a city that comes to mind when I see these photos, try a visit to Montreal, QC. It's a little slice of Europe just north of New York! Thanks for sharing.

Great shots, Ed!

Too bad I didn't know you were going in advance as I'd have given you directions to the greatest drunk food in Switzerland. The "Jumbo Jumbo"
