its an old Fuji camera, not very good really, these are just some of the more clear pics I had. Ill have more pics in the future. My first approach and landing was the river vis into DCA at night, wish I had pics of that one.

Awesome pics! Just curious, do you use the auto throttles all the way down to landing? I know you can, just curious how many pilots actually do that.

| They retard to idle around 30ft. so if your approach speed is close to Ref it works great, but I had an ILS into MCI in icing which added 10kts off the bat then the winds were gusting pretty strong which added another 15kts on top of that. I think Ref was originally 126 then 136 then 151. So if you wait til 30ft to let the AT retard back you will have so much speed and float 3000ft down the runway. You can disengage the AT before landing or just pull them back and override the AT, either way works

jtrain and I were having a conversation last week *I think*. With the 170-195 having auto throttles, and FBW is it still a fun plane to fly? And do you feel like a pilot flying it, or more of a busy "systems operator?"

| of course its not like flying the Saab, but it can very much be a pilots airplane if you want it to be. You can hand fly it all you want, but its a lil bit more work for the PM and I will throw the AP on after 18000 or when its rough out just for the passengers sake. It is a very response airplane for being as big as it is. To answer your question max, you can be as much of a pilot as you want with it, for me its now a matter of figuring out which CA's dont mind me clicking it all off!

What do the captains think about guys taking photos during their IOE trips? Catch any heat for it? Thanks for sharing the photos. |

| Old Skool | Cool, That was actually my guess, after I saw on APC the PHL was now a Domicile and LGA is prob senior. Yeah, I don't think too many people would like PHL as a base.

| Why would anyone care if I take pics? Its not like I whipped it out and started taking pics at 500 feet. All my pics were not in violation of sterile cockpit so you can do anything you want.

![]() They'd still be answering ATC calls just like if the plane is on auto, right? What makes hand flying more labor intnesive for the PNF?

Not criticizing your ability to take photos, I'm glad you took them and are sharing them with us. I was just wondering if there were any fellow crew members who don't like it.

My check airmen never cared, either. In fact, mine offered to take a picture of me in the aircraft.

You know, that is how they taught us in training as well and so far...I have yet to have any captain ask me to set a speed or heading or anything.....so you know what, I don't do it either. I have learned in my short time as an airline pilot that I let the CAPT fly the first leg to get a feel of what he does and how he rolls and then I just mimic what he does. (within reason....I am not talking about "if everyone else jumps off a bridge, would you?" sort of buisness) That seems to work out just fine. By the way, nice pictures. I have had to ride the E170 4 times in the past week to and from ORF/PHL and three of those were yesterday. (Scheduling, don't ask) Nice airplane though...thnks for the pics. CHEERS

| I cant stand the handlebars, I keep cracking mine or the CA knees. And whoever thought it would be a great idea to put the pivot point so low so you have to "push" the yoke over to each side should be shot lol.
