| Old Skool | Mpenguin1 arranged for a tour of some rich dude's private 727 at VNY. We met with the captain, Ed, and he was kind enough to show us around. Thanks again Mike! And uhh, ahem. Where were to two Armens?! Here's some pictures. I'm not the best photographer but you'll get the idea. http://gallery.mac.com/mark172/100098 |

| The fuzzy dice are very common in the larger boeing series converted business jets. With the additional weight considerations regarding the fine leather and the imported burlwoods and such the dice are an integral part to the weight and balance equation. Often times depending on the lavishness of the owners it may get so out of hand that fuzzy dice just are not enough and that is often when you see a hula dancer or in rare situations a bobble head doll in addition to the dice. amateurs

![]() Someone at the FSDO had a problem with the brown color on the instrumentation panels as well as some other minor things. They spent an ungodly amount of money on it so instead of redoing it, registered it in the Bahamas | |

| Old Skool | VP-B** is Bahamas, While VP-C** is Cayman Islands. One of the few places where the characters "pre dash" does not specify the country of registration. (well kinda)

| It's a 200. The 100's have sterling silver showers, not gold. ![]() Seriously, you can tell the 100's because the yoke is not centered between the pilots legs; therefore, this is a -200.

Continental used the JT8D-9 (14,500# of thrust) and the JT8D-15 (15,500# thrust) for domestic birds. Some of our Guam 72s had the JT8D-17s rated at 16,000 pounds of thrust. We had a few 100s that only had the -9s. Who knows what some of the newer engine mods put out? You say 19k? That would be a rocket.

It certainly could be as it is difficult to tell by the pictures. On all the 727-100s I have flown the yokes have been offset from center and were very noticeable. Perhaps with all the mods they fixed that. I would think you could get a 727 real cheap these days. It would be the keeping them running that would cost you a fortune. The MD80 and the 727 both used the P&W JT8D series engines.

I have seen .90 plus several times on the 747. It's amazing how big that plane is and how fast it goes. I was a Flight Engineer on our 747s before the bean counters said we couldn't afford to fly them.

It could be. We never flew them that fast as they were sooooo noisy. Both airplanes are incredible even by today's modern standards.

| I had to pull the engines way back to stay below .89 mach. We were ferrying an airplane to the desert, a day short of losing our job since the company was going under. Flying at .89 Mach? No wonder they were going under.... ![]()

| I'm going to say it's a -200. The -100 had an oval shaped number two engine cowling, not round, like this one.

The 727 is just a gorgeous aircraft. Looks like they did a great job updating the cockpit as well, but it looks like a block-III autopilot, unless I'm mistaken.
