| N218JT...@ Wilmington NC today. I guess he stayed in our hotel, the CA I was with had a beer with him. He sounds like a goof on the radio too .I have a crappy camera phone but the a/c is that little white thing on the left side. ![]() http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N218JT Pretty neat! I guess the 500 is VFR only still? That's what the instructor he was with was saying. No A/P, no F/D, VFR only. Crapload of work for 1 guy.

| VFR is correct! I sat in one about a week ago when a trainer and an owner showed up at our airport. They were real cool guys. I didn't even ask - they just said its okay to look inside if you like. mmmmm - okay! Beautiful aircraft.

| Junior Member | There is aother picture of it I have in an issue of a magazine about business jet flying. It has a picture of his Eclipse. I don't remember the name of the magazine but it had a story about him in it. |

| Old Skool | VFR only? I'm not doubting you all, just curious about it. Especially since on FlightAware it shows them flying at FL280. And one other thing. If I had the means to own a B-707 and a Gulfstream the last thing I'd buy is an Eclipse!

| I think they can file IFR but it's VMC only, that's what I meant.

| 218JT was parked next to me on the ramp in SMO today. Ugly paint scheme IMHO, had a bunch of teal pinstripes down the side. I think JT does a lot for aviation, but I agree the Breitling ads are a bit overkill.

| Old Skool | VMC IFR certified... weird out of curiousity, why? because no AP/FD? (They won't come with one? lol)

| Old Skool | I've flown lots of IMC without an AP or a FD. It probably has to do with the certification of the composites on the airframe. If the thing doesn't have any ability to discharge static electricity then the last thing you want to is poke holes in the clouds. If the thing took a lightning strike it'd blow a hole straight through any piece of composite on it, which could mean a piece of the airplane like say...oh...the wing. |
