Eh, it's OK, I'm perfectly comfortable being 48!

I actually flew the F-28 for Piedmont/USAir in 1989 through early 1990 and again in late 1991.

That's way cool! Was Piedmont you're first airline? The Fokkers were pretty cool little jets. I grew up with Piedmont in ROA. My mom used to take me over to the old terminal and we used to watch the operation. Good times! Being loyal Piedmont flyers, we weren't happy with the USAir merger. Piedmont had impecable customer service, but it slowly deteriorated when the merger was complete and Piedmont employees started retiring. We actually flew on Piedmont's inaugural flight from CLT to LAX on the new 767's. I always wanted to be a Piedmont pilot, but that went out the door in '89!

Nope...

I got out of the Navy in 1987 with just helicopter and T-34 (single-engine fixed-wing prop) time, so none of the majors would look at me except for Eastern and Pan Am.

I interviewed at Eastern and was hired but turned them down due to what was going on there then; I had used my Eastern interview as a "practice" interview since I knew I wasn't going there.

I interviewed at Comair and was hired...

I got called by Pan Am for an interview, they were just starting to hire for the first time in 20 years. When I got to the Pan Am interview I had a retired Pan Am pilot and a Pan Am Express pilot asking the questions...
Pan Am Express was the former Ransome Airline which was bought by Pan Am and turned into Pan Am Express...
They had a flow-through agreement whereby Pan Am had to take so many "Express" guys with each new-hire class, so if you were an Express guy you would eventually go to mainline if you wanted to...

So, at the end of the interview I told the guys I would rather start at PanAm Express so I could get multi-engine F/O time vs. "regular" Pan Am where I would be a flight engineer for years. They both looked at each other and kinda shrugged and said, OK, and I ended up being hired by Pan Am Express starting in November 1987...

I was interviewed by USAir the week they bought Piedmont. They called me and said I was hired, then called back about a week later to ask if I wanted to start at Piedmont instead. I asked what the difference would be. They said anyone hired after the date they bought Piedmont would go on the list by date-of-hire and I would start sooner hence be more senior if I went to Piedmont, so I said "sign me up!" That's how I ended up being a Piedmont pilot for 10 months before the actual merging of the 2 operations...

Since I've got you all buttered up now, would you mind helping a brother out by checking my v-file for revisions and inserting them? My bag is in the commuter room with the big "NIN" sticker on it, muchos gracias!

Um, yeah, I'll get right on that...

No need to check, just consider them done from now on...
