| We had a hellish time Wednesday night, luckily I had a good crew and a great Captain. We were supposed to push from JFK at 19:00, so the brief is at 17:30. I got the paperwork early and did the plotting chart... 17:30 comes and it's just me in the briefing room... I check the computer and neither one has signed in yet, just me... I stroll around looking for the other two who I know by sight since I've flown with them before but no dice... I check the "quiet" room to see if one of them is sleeping in there, no... finally I call crew skeds; "the Captain's on the 13:30 BOS shuttle which is just taking off, he'll be late, the other F/O is coming in late from DCA..." No problem, I'll go out to the airplane and get everything ready... just as I'm leaving the other F/O shows up, he was driving in from Bucks County, PA and there was a wreck on the highway, so he's only few minutes late... we head out to the airplane, I meet and brief the flight attendants and tell the agent what's going on and to board the pax at the normal time so when the Captain show up we can close the door and go... Pax are all loaded, 19:00 come and goes and no Captain... so I'm in the jetway composing my message for 200 Nice passengers when El Capitano shows up at 19:10... Yay, I fill him in and we close the door! Crisis averted... NOT! Now the fun really begins... The wx that had delayed the shuttle flights moves in over JFK. Heavy thunderstorms with lightning which keeps shutting down the ramp (no rampers can be outside for fear of lightning strike)... We've only begun to push when the first ramp shutdown occurs... happens 3 more times, finally one pax decides to get off, we have to get the jetway back and deplane him, others consider getting off... We finally push for real around midnight, now we're looking at crew duty day issues; we do the calculations, we have a 14 hour duty day which we can voluntarily extend to 16 but cannot exceed that. So with our flight time we figure out we have to be off the ground by 02:16 or we're out of duty time! Needless to say things were chaotic on the ground, we start taxiing and figure we're number 60 or so in line, no way are we going to get off by 02:16... Finally various airliners start telling ground that they have ____ minutes or they'll have to go back to the gate, the controller did an excellent job moving people up to the head of the line... we finally are about 25 or 30 from takeoff when I tell her we have 17 minutes... She moves us to the head of the line and we took off at 02:13!!! 3 minutes to spare... Got into Nice at 15:30 local, 7 & 1/2 hours late. I stood in the door to say goodbye since I did the landing and every passenger thanked us for sticking with it and getting them out. Some of them were upset at JFK, but it helped that we had air-conditioning and did beverage services etc, the flight attendants did a great job... Ugh! I've been flying out of JFK for 7+ years and that was the worst ever! I still took pics, though... Here's my commute in, guess on which Airline? (Hint: don't tell Velocipede) DSCN2149.JPG DSCN2150.JPG Crew room JFK... DSCN2151.JPG DSCN2152.JPG DSCN2160.JPG Kevin

| Ahhh, but Nice is so nice! That gelato looks yummy! Sorry about the JFK bummer. Seems to be going around. I just read that NWA has cancelled over 1000 flights this week. Folks, welcome to the 2 busiest weeks of the summer travel season! Thanks for the photos. |

| Hmmm...those places look familiar. Is Wayne's down a little alleyway, and does Negresco's have a statue of Louis Armstrong out front? |
