People were nice enough. I don't speak a lick of Russian (other than learning how to say Thank you) but I was able to get directions via signlanguage on a few occasions... although a few people kept their heads down and kept walking when I tried to say excuse me to do the direction thing... Pretty much like any big city though expect unlike most of Europe pretty much nobody speaks English (including the menus...thank god for pictures) so it makes it more of an adventure. Navigating the subway is somewhat of a challenge because the signs are tough to read. Basically pick the first 3 or 4 symbols/letters and go from there when looking at all the signs. The market was somewhat similar to the grand bazar in Istanbul but outside and the seller all haggled in English...there are some deals to be had but I'd say Istanbul is a better shopping place ... I did pick up a cool flask for my Russian Standard vodka with the old communist insigna on it for 200 rubbles ($8). More pics: 1.) Market 2.) Market 3.) UUEE Terminal 4.) IranAir...must be a nice part of the world! 5.) Lenin's tomb in front of the Kremlin

In addition to the visa, you will also need an "invitation" from the hotel... so if Doug bids SVO and you go, he'll need to call the hotel a week or two ahead of time to arrange this. Plenty of room for an extra person or two in the crew van though...

The map the hotel gives you is color coded... the actual subway stations are not. And you can't count stops unless you're really paying attention because not all the stops on the map are open.
