| ![]() A DA20-C1 will make it to 14,000 after all! We got to 12,500, leveled out and then got to 14,000. It only took 6-7 minutes or so from 12,500, and if it weren't for that pesky oxygen rule we could have gone higher. It climbed at about 200 fpm toward the end of the climb. 96 indicated at that altitude and temperature made for a decent true air speed. Mike |

| Cool! I was up at 14,264 feet the other day... But I wasn't in any plane. Honda Civic baby! Technically, the car only got me up to 14,130 and I had to hump it the rest of the way. How did you feel when you were up there? Get the white fingernails at all? |

| Being that I was sitting on my behind, I didn't notice any effects from being at altitude. We were only up there for a couple minutes. My student (the hairy one) is from Colorado Springs, so I imagine he's used to that sort of thing. I hear if you drive up Pike's Peak you notice the effect of being that high after you get out of your car and start to walk around. I'll have to try it someday. Not bad for the little Diamond and its 125 horses, overall. Mike |

| Wow, I didn't know the Diamond only had 125HP... That is impressive. I went to the top of the mountain about a week after spending 6 months at sea level and really noticed it. Fingernails turned all white, lips turned blue a bit and I felt lightheaded. Went up there last year too after being in Denver for a while and didn't notice anything other than being out of breath when I made it to the top. |

| Old Skool | Mike, that wierd, I remember reading an artical saying that a katana was horrible at above 5,000ft. I Think it was AOPA flight training, but I thought that was total BS, did you ever read this?

| During my AF days, we flew into La Paz, Bolivia on SA trips. I believe the airport is around 13,500ft elevation. We decompress and wear oxygen masks on the approach. Carrying a portable O2 bottle was highly reccomended. BAH!, I thought the first time. I felt fine and walked off to smoke a cigarette. A few puffs and I literally fell over. hehe. Ahh the young stupid years. |

| This guy I once knew routinely would fly at 17,500ft without oxygen while being a chase plane for the baja races in mexico. He said he would always look for signs of hypothermia.....err......hypoalerg........err..... .hypoxic.......hypoxia! Not too smart, but he never had problems. Until eventful day coming back over Dana Point. RIP. |

| Got a C150 up to 13,300. Again, if I had more time, might have been able to push the 14,000 mark. Only took about 40 minutes to get up there , 20 minutes back down though (coulda been faster if it weren't for the shock cooling aspect) I had to look at that pic of yours a couple times, before realizing the 10,000 needle was past the 1. Nice work man! -ColM
