Default IFR in JAX

Thanks to my new digicam...I finally get to post a little of what I'm out doing everyday. This one is from an IFR XC with an instrument student a few weeks ago...ILS right down to minimums in JAX. This was after we had gone missed once already, and the fog rose just enough. Probably looks like just another day to you northern flyers, but we don't see this down here in FL too often!

cool vid, thanks for sharing, but you got some pretty big balls taping it while your instrument student is shooting an ILS,in actual, down to mins.

I was going to critique the "mins" part (decided not to be an A$$), but overall good training and good video for up and comers. Looks like y'all were having fun out there.

Wait till winter rolls around....Almost every morning is like that. I used to wait for days like that just to go flying and shoot approaches. Gotta love it

I finally got around to posting the rest of the vids from that flight. It has been severe clear down here since that flight...we got lucky that day.

Nice videos. Pretty sharp on the crosshairs.

I went down to mins. for the first time last week. Took off out of KPAE in hopes of getting some VFR-on-top work, but never found the tops. When we took off, the ceilings were at about 700' agl. By the time we got back on the ILS, they dropped down to mins. My student and I were number 4 on the approach sequence, and I was FAF inbound when I found out the guy in front of me went missed (for real).

The DA is 781' , and we broke out with about 20 feet to spare! I was a bit off centerline, and boy did that wake me up! Good experience though, .8 total flight duration, .7 actual, lot of fun!

I must admit that was one educational video for me. Not yet IFR rated, the visual provided a lesson on both missed and "on" approaches.

I didn't think Riddle would dispatch you into that kind of WX.

We knew Jax would be pretty solid IFR, which is what we hoped for, but the surprise was coming back to DAB and hearing 1/8 sm VV100 over the ATIS...completely unforecast, of course. It was VFR about 15 miles north of DAB, and the fog was burning off rapidly, so I figured we'd shoot some approaches while we waited (3+ hrs fuel remaining). However, I missed an OpSpec about not shooting practice approaches with wx below published mins, and got written up for it, but it was a good learning experience for my student and I saw no hazards to safety of flight. So it goes...I learned my lesson
