I actually bid vacation for October this year. Fortunately for me the week I wanted was held by a guy who went to United so I was able to take his slot. 19th-25th. Oh yeah.

My vacation bid is in as well.......haven't heard anything about it as of yet. But I remain confident it's going to go through. |

| Old Skool | All vacation bids are completed in the October/November timeframe of the year prior at CAL. There can be some monthly vacations awarded, but they are leftovers anyway, and 99% of the people use their allotment in the regular bid. And if you are a Cappy right now you can take 11 days off without pay, and that happens the month prior before you bid. So my first reaction was, "you can still bid for vacations?????"

Well, we have an annual vacation bid in December for the next year. However, I typically don't submit a bid because I don't know when I want to use my vacation. So, we're also allowed to bid out two months prior for vacation and hope the week you want is still available. Although you most likely won't get the 'big' weeks this way, (those typically go to the very senior people anyway) it does give you more flexibility to plan your life a month at a time instead of by the year.

I normally bid in December with everybody else, and try to put my weeks as late in the year as I can. Then, if something comes up earlier I can always change it (if spots are available) up until the 15th of the month prior to the vacation week I want. I also had to rebid my weeks this year because of my upgrade.
