WhenI was still in the Navy Reserve Jan Brown Lohr, the Senior Flight Attendant on board, came to talk to us about that day.

Quote:
From Wikipedia:

United 232's Senior Flight Attendant. She was forced by regulation to ask parents with "lap babies" (children without seats) aboard flight 232 to place their children on the cabin floor during the flight's final moments before impact. Upon impact one of four children was killed. The deceased child's mother came to her at the crash site and stated "You told me to put my baby on the floor and now he's gone." Since then, Lohr has tirelessly lobbied in Washington D.C. to promote the safety of children on all civilian aircraft and airlines, asking that federal regulations require all children to have a seatbelt on every flight.

I'll never forget the haunted look on her face as she described the "baby-on-the-floor" incident. All because she was doing what she was trained to do...

(Kinda like the crews on 9/11 who were doing what their training told them to do...)

And that is part of the reason why I am so very opposed to the concept of "lap children".

sorry for the thread hijack......

I just can't understand how the FAA could have possibly believed that a human alone could restrain a child like that in the event of a potential crash situation. I mean it was common knowledge (at least I am assuming it was) that the "mother-hand-across-the-chest" during a car crash is inconsequential. Sad that it took such an event for them to realize this requirement was ridiculous. I suppose that is how the FAA usually works though..

Doug, any luck on getting someone from ALPA to attend and maybe host a roundtable or do a presentation for us?

What are you guys trying to do? JC used to be a nice little website. You get Capt Haynes and you'll be on par with the AOPA convention...

Congratz on going big time.

Sadly, rubber dog shizzle will pay what it costs to be transported from point-a to point-b whereas the average "joe" wants an act of congress to keep airfares artificially low! DOH!

It IS pretty sad when people will pay $14/lb for a letter, and less than that for their butt ro arrive safely.

If the gramma, spelling or typing is bad, blame Kona Longboard. I'm having a "ME" night....

CRM class in upgrade focused a lot on Al Haynes. Got me pumped about going to NJC this year.
