jtrain speaks the truth! I have made some great friends and awesome connections through this site. You would have to be insane to not make it to Network JC if you have the hours and are looking for a job.

honestly, i don't feel as though there are cliques on the site.. sure, some of us know each other by face AND username but i don't see how that equals cliquish. We don't have cheerleaders and jocks... we have airlinepilots and freightdawgs etc....of which when we get together at NJC, there really isn't a whole heck of a lot of aviation talk at all.. no fr8dawgs rule-corporate pilots rule banter....just comingling of lives, putting a name to a face and making contact. if there's anything that's a clique, this board as a whole is a clique and anyone who joins it becomes one with the family we call Jetcareers...

I can't begin to describe what this site has meant to me. I had zero hours and was looking for a place to do my training when I joined in November 2001. This site, the folks on here, not only saw me go through my training, instructing, interviewing and finally landing my job as a First Officer with American Eagle, they also played a valuable part in keeping me on track. There were many, MANY times I didn't think I could do this, and folks like: sbe C650Capt Pilot602 MTSUav8tor Jtrain Doug Kristie MikeD Jep aloft TonyW FlyChicaga Kristie Seggy MQAAORD TheWife davetheflyer john_tenney (a/k/a "Mr. Creepy") Eagle theshortone .... ... and the list goes on and on and on and on...... ...talked me down out of MANY a tree, off MANY a cliff, and redirected me more times than they are aware. That said - I've never once been able to make it to Vegas - even when a LOT of help was offered. Not because I didn't want to go, but because I had other commitments that I just could not leave. One day I will make it. But for now, the best thing I can do is to offer my assistance and direction to those who are where I was back in 2001-now. That's how I intend to pay Doug and Kristie back for their efforts. I hope that will do for now. Stan |

I just could not make it last year, and I was very new when it came about. This year is much more of a certainty. If I get drunk with someone in a hot tub, will you walk my resume in? I kid I kid. Good Post JohnnyTrain. |

| Old Skool | It never seems like a "clique" to the ones that are known. I can see an outsiders point of view of that it SEEMS like their is that cliquish feeling going on. I have been around awhile and know some people on this board, so I know there aren't any clique's, just people that know each other and josh around with each other. Now I see us regular members maybe extending the olive branch a little more when the newbies post (ie. include them on the general conversations). If someone lurks and doesn't try to get involved, then they turn around and yell "JC is full of cliques" then shame on them.

Well some of you may remember some of my posts most probly dont. I really hardly post at all but i read this forum almost ever day. For those who dont know im a senior in highschool. I have asked a few questions about schools and have always gotten responses. Although im still very young this site has alrdy helped me alot in giving me a solid direction. I have pretty well moved away from the idea of going to ERAU. (thanks in large part to this site but other reasons as well) i am now looking at attending University of OKlahoma and going through their flight program. Before anyone asks, yes i am going to get atleast a minor in a non aviation program. Anyway i just wanted to say that even thogh i dont post much i still read everything and have gotten alot of influence out of you all. I look forward to being in yalls shoes sometime.

I only joined recently and I feel right at home. I participate actively and have had good post-reply interaction, not to mention I have already had nice PM contact with plenty of fine folk so far. However, I can recall ,while I was still lurking, that I thought the site looked to be a bit of a members only club, with the same members posting all the time, and other members seemingly only really taking interest in the old timers that they knew. I think most people on board here extend a pretty warm welcome to newcomers, I know I got a nice welcome when I joined, and a lot of help (local information) within the first few weeks I was a member. I guess one thing you have to keep in mind when you are new to a forum, or anything else for that matter, is that you are NEW. You wouldn't walk into a new job and expect everyone to be your buddy on the first day, would you. There are already going to be people there that know each other, and interact better with each other then they will with you, at least for a while. I think a forum is not so different. If anything it is better in many ways, as I feel that people here are more inclined to help others much quicker then you might in a different environment, such as school or work. I personally plan to meet as many JCer's as possible once I get back to American soil (Which should be soon!), and then I will take it as it comes. If it is a bit of a closed shop, then so be it, you can't be everyone's best friend. However, if it was truly a member's only mentality, which I am pretty certain it isn't, then there wouldn't be any meet and greats or conventions. What would be the point? The "cliques" would simply meet on their own, without any public announcements on the forum, and enjoy themselves I feel that if you have posted endless and get little attention or reaction, have attended NJCs or meet and greats and felt shut out, well then you might have something to complain about, but (As Sprint stated above) if you don't make any attempts to get involved, then you only have yourself to blame. I kind of figure that you will get out of the forum what you put into it. | |

I know that there is no other JC member in Haines, thus I am trying hard to get an Alaska Meet n Greet going.

| Old Skool | You pay, we'll come! I saw The Guardian last night, have you seen it? Wondering if there is really a "Kodiak, AK" and if the seas are as bad as they look in the movie. Cause if so, I don't know why anyone would go on them! But I'm a chicken.

Great thread starter JTRAIN.....I've been wanting to attend the NCJ's for the last few years, but now that I'm back in the good ol' US of A, I'll be there for sure this year....pending an unforseen flare up in the Mid East. I look forward to meeting a bunch of ya'll. Even gonna bring the wife along....though I'm sure she will get bored with beer drinkin' and flyin' stories (there I was coming in on his six :-) ) She's very supportive and would love to meet up with folks from the website that occupies a lot of my time. Look forward to Vegas, baby....WOOHOO. Pac Man |

Great discussion ya'll, I'm glad that there are some other folks that agree with this. So check it out, two little known facts about me and JC: -The people I've argued with most in the lav are the guys I get along best with when we hang out. If you think what's been going on in the lav is ANYTHING, you missed out around April of 2003 when all hell broke loose down there. Mpenguin, montanapilot, FL270, donttouchanything, davetheflyer vs. me, R2F, TonyW and a bunch of other liberals. You think TonyC writes a lot? I was posting term papers on the effects of democratic globalism on a weekly basis. If you guys think that the guys in the lav just argue with each other, you're sorely mistaken. Heck what a lot of people don't realize is that me and Seggy could POSSIBLY disagree on politics more but the dude's like one of my best buddies EVER. That guy has gone to the ends of the earth for me and I hope I can do the same for him one day. -THERE IS NO INNER CIRCLE. Here I'll say it again so ya'll can hear me, T H E R E I S N O I N N E R C I R I C L E. Does everybody understand that? The only people that have ever talked about JC cliques, the inner circle or the JC elite have NEVER been to a networking function EVER. So show up! |
