| Old Skool | Just my initial knee jerk reaction to your post. Nothing of malice was meant by it. But just mentally noting that your family must be really, really conservative. Not that there is anything at all wrong with that! |

| Old Skool | K, just making sure you didn't think *I* was being insulting to say that. We aren't REALLY REALLY conservative, just PG-13 if you will. |

| Old Skool | Ok actually, PG-13 from 10 years ago. LOL |

Any way, from a new guy I hope to be there. Purely for the aviation networking. Wouldn't dream of drinking, gambling, or going to a strip club. I mean what fun is that any way? P N H | |

| OK, I'm on my second cup of joe so hopefully I can offer a more intelligent reply than I began typing earlier. ![]() When I saw JTrain's original post, I was pleased and cringed at the same time. What John speaks of is the truth: This board is an amazing networking resource, which all the members should really be utilizing to the maximum. We have some truly great people here who will do anything to help out a fellow member. I know personally that I've met some life-long friends here from this board. Friends who I not only talk work with once in a while, but more so talk about our lives and the things we enjoy outside work. That is a telltale sign that meeting these people has forged more in terms of friendships than business contacts. That for me is very important, because I know I'll bend over backwards for a friend much faster than an acquaintance. So now you see why I was pleased John wrote this post, but why did I cringe? I cringed because I saw the pictures of our parties in Vegas, and I'm afraid the type of fun parties we had there might deter many of the members not to come. That right there is a problem. I will be first to admit that we get a little crazy at NJC. Why? Because you gather a group of pilots together, who quickly become good friends, drop them in an amazing suite at a high-class casino/hotel with alcohol and you have yourself a party. Rightfully so. For many of us, we only get to see each other once or twice a year, so when you put us all together in Vegas you quickly can see why we go "all-out" for our one weekend together. However, I will also be the first to tell you that what you see and believe it not really the truth. All in all, we are a very tame group, and our main focus is hanging with friends. Face it: We are nearly all professional pilots, and although we can have a good time, we know not to be too crazy. There is good fun and bad fun, and we definitely have 110% of the good kind. For those who are turned off by the idea of our "debauchery," don't be. It is not what it seems. We just are friends, having a good time with other friends. Even if you don't drink, smoke, or do anything else of the kind, you will definitely not be left out. Personally, the last night my girlfriend and I spent in Vegas this past October was some of the most fun we had in a long time. We walked around the strip with another couple from JC (bumblebee and the missus) for hours, seeing the casinos, having lunch, walking through some shops, etc. I couldn't drink because I was riding home in uniform that evening, but that did not make a d*mn bit of difference. We still had a wonderful time. The same goes for the other small Meet and Greets that I've been too. A few times we'll catch up over a quick beer or two, but I've found the focus more is just hanging with your friends and developing new ones. So far I have not met a single person from JetCareers that I haven't liked. Some of the people I've met here I consider close friends. Heck, I even spent a few days in Paris with TonyW. As far as the "cliques" you see, that again is a mis perception. We don't have "cliques." The "inside" discussions you see are just continuations of the friendships we have outside the internet. The only thing separating you from the perceived "clique" is one trip to a Meet and Greet. I will say with 100% conviction that you will also be a friend if you make the effort to come meet other members. Alcohol consumption and debauchery not required. ![]() So just to reiterate what John said, if you are not making even a half-assed attempt to come to a Meet and Greet, you are missing out on not only a great networking opportunity, but also an opportunity to forge some life-long friendships with some great people.

Ok here is my pug on the place. This web-site is a great place to meet great people. If I ever dropped out of avaiation (tempting at times) I would still hang here and still go to the mng's. A lot of people do it to network but it is also a great place to meet fine folks that can help you in more than just aviation. I now have friends all over the nation that I could call for help. I didn't have that before.

| I'll keep my JC accolades short and sweet: If you're looking to get into aviation or need a hookup with a job, do yourself a favor and get to a M&G or NJC. Seriously. The people I met at NJC '06 were really, really cool and extremely helpful (and a lot of fun to hang out with). |
