Most of the people returning from NetworkJC remember the "good times", but here's the business aspect of it. If you have any desire to pursue professional aviation, you need to attent a NetworkJC event. There are pilots who are from airlines which you want to work for, in a friendly, social environment, that are in positions that are able to help you and offer you guidance. Formal employement seminars are a little lame, in my opinion, but where else can you actually spend the weekend with a pilot from an airline that you may want to work for, create bonds and perhaps meet someone willing (and able!) to walk in your application? Nowhere else but NetworkJC. It's really never to early in your career to attend a NetworkJC event and make the most important contacts of your career. Sure you see pictures of the 'casual' side of the event, but there were countless numbers of career connections made and solidified during the event. Mock interviews that were "spot on" what I've seen during my career, tower tours, part 121 carrier operations tours, mingling with major and regional airline pilots -- most hiring, some not hiring yet (but soon). If you're reading this post, you've got to make the next one. It can (and will) make the difference in your career.

I also think there is a motivation aspect of NJC, and the fact you can talk about your PPL Phase one training with CFI (for free), regional airline pilot (for free), major airline pilot (for free), Stealth Fighter pilot (for free) all who are more then happy to discuss concepts like pitch, power, rudder, trim, or taxing, or how to handle busy class C radio communications and fly at the same time - things they have not consiously thought about in years. No where else would you have these opportunities - it is usually $35 an hour to pick your instructors brain about it, where they will repeat their little speech.

I'm looking forward to next years'! I just happened to be in the middle of a 2000+ mile move this time around.

Looks like you guys had another great year, Doug. I've been a member of this site for a long time now (since 2001), and it's been pretty awesome to watch it grow into the career tool that it has grown into. I am surely going to try and make it next year to Vegas. I have heard enough stories over the past few years of people getting hired at their employers of choice because of NJC and it is becoming apparent that it truly should be a no-miss event. Thanks for all the effort, Doug and Kristie!

Im still bummed seeing that I thought I was going to socal for a wedding then thats gets canceled by the Riverside fire by that time it was too late to register and I live in Vegas. However I did manage to meet up with Tracy one night which was pretty cool, wish I had more time to hang out that night and meet the rest of you. I promise next time I will be on top of this. I think there should be 2 big NJCs each year . One in Vegas and the other one elsewhere.

Wish I could have made it, but just wasn't in the cards this year. Without NetworkJC, I would never have found the school I ended up finishing my ratings at. When I went to NJC for the first time, I had just fled FL from flight school eating hurricanes, and was in the middle of a crisis: mostly through with a CMEL and no place to go. ATP didn't do Comm initials outside of the career program, so they were out. FSI was too expensive, etc. But, there was some flyers and stuff on this "Skymates" place so me and someone else from NJC decided to go check it out together. Well, you see where we are now: I'm at a regional, and he's instructing for a freight carrier. More importantly, we know people at just about every airline now that can give us the inside scoop without sugar coating it.

I think it needs to be a biannual thing. One in ACity one in Vegas. Or something like that!

| There are many smaller local ones - I know there was a NJCOC - Doug and Kristie flew to Orange County and there was a good dozen people hanging out. It takes someone from the local city to organize it though.

| Big Chief's Woman | ACity's kinda gone down the tubes and I dunno if i wanna hold one there... Pengy has simulators in Miami and i'm thinking Coconut Grove could be fun... BUT...non-revving into florida isn't always easy... so.. we'll have to see...

Boston could be a fun city as well. It would also take a MAJOR event for me not to make it there.

I'm glad I read this post cause I had considered going this year but I was hesitant due to the fact that I'm VERY new to aviation. And I'm not even 100% convinced that I want to pursue this as a career. However as was stated it's never too early to make the connections. I'll definitely be there next year!

There is a very good chance that after I get my instructor ticket, all I will do is teach members of my flying club. Still, I have a lot of fun, I get to hang with some cool people, and Kristie pimps me to her friends. | |
