Spliting time in Seattle

Anyone in the Seattle area looking to split time in the near future. I can get a pretty good deal on a 152, or a 172. I need to get up to 250 hours pretty quickly. So if you want to split time hit me up.

I was under the belief that if one pilot was under the hood and and the other wasn't, both were able to log the time a pic.

You are correct, sir. It's perfectly legal.

I think it looks a little cheesy running around in a 152 logging safety pilot time. But knock yourself out.

OK, I was thinking it was going so slow anyway, and the cost, just pay it all and build time!

Wish I could get into a 150/152!

I'm curious what a 152 costs per/hr for you? Here in Portland they rent about 85/hr.

What airport are you flying out of? Pearson in Vancouver has 150s for
$64/hour after the fuel surcharge. But then there's tax, too.

Twin Oaks in Hillsboro has 150s for $55/hour, no fuel surcharge, no taxes in Oregon.

How much is the 152 in Seattle?

I'm building time towards the instrument rating.

The prices just went up to 54 for a 152 and i think 68 for a 172. So the prices are still pretty good.

Wow that's not bad! Especially for Seattle. I used to live in Seattle. Crest Airpark had just about the best rates around and that was still high compared to Portland.

What airport is that? Can you post a link?

That is for Renton. The web site is BEFA.org, I don't think the prices have been updated on there.

Ahhh I see. I freind of mine got his PPL out of there several years ago. He was a Boeing employee so could fly out of there. I take it you work for Boeing?

I fly out of Hillsboro Aviation. They charge 78/hr plus a 6-10 dollar fuel surcharge.

Twin Oaks requires you to have insurance for the airplane you fly. They have a 180 horse cherokee, it's cheap but you need hull insurance on it.

That is really cheap... When I lived in Montana I payed 80/hr for a 172 and I thought I was getting a good deal.

Yeah, Hillsboro Aviation is expensive. Although that fuel surcharge has come down a bit from the $18/hr they were charging on the 152 a while ago.

I got the liability / $20,000 hull insurance. It's good peace of mind and worth the investment. My opinion.

Gorge Winds at Troutdale airport has a 152 for 61/hr. I have not seen it, but their other planes are very well maintained. I will tell you later today what the 152 is like. I was going to do a lesson today in it, but I doubt that will happen with the rain. The 172s are $84-$99(depends on what horsepower and avionics package you want) and they have a beautiful Piper Arrow for $99/hr. That is the price you pay period. No fuel surcharge, no taxes.

You pay too much at Hillsboro Aviation IMHO.

Gorge Winds is a good place too. I did a little bit of flying there and that 150 and 172's are nice. Marv is an honest fellow and its a quality place to fly out of.

No, I'm not personally interested. I'm just commenting on the practice of taking pot shots at a company in public without being willing to publically say why. Doesn't really seem fair somehow, know what I mean?

I will have to check out Gorge Winds.

I haven't heard of HAI cooking up viotlations to the FSDO, but I know they have other ways of doing business that might be unusual. I remember being charged 0.1 ground because I forgot my headset in the building and had to run from the airplane to the building grab the headset and run back to the plane. Kind of a good laugh I guess.

Not saying that the company is bad, but like most companies they are out to make lots of money.
