Default Need advice & help Trying to get back in the saddle

Hello All,

I'm new to this particular forum and must say that Doug, and all involved, did a great job!

Let me introduce my self, my name is Alex, am 31 and I live in Southern rural Illinois on the border with Indiana. I just moved here in February and the local airports, although pretty well equiped, don't seem to be happening places as far as aviation is concerned. So I'm willing to get a crashpad, commute or move if that's what it takes.

I have been in aviation since '96. Unfortunately I've been without an active flying job since April 2003 which is the date I was forced to close my own flight school due to high insurance premiums and a substantial decline in student numbers due too 9/11 .

During the time I was not employed as a pilot, I held 2 other jobs not aviation related. I did keep my CFI ticket valid by attending Flight Instructor Refresher courses.

I am anxious to get back in the saddle and have taken some steps to accomplish this. In March, I completed my Flight Review and Instrument Comp. Check and also went ahead and obtained my ATPL with Multi-Engine Land rating as well as a First Class Medical.

I know have an ATPL ticket with ME rating, CPL with SE and IR, CFI, CFII, AGI, IGI, FCC permit, FEX written and a First Class Medical. 2500TT, 320ME. Also current on instruments and multi-engine through the training for the ATPL.

I have send out probably 40 resumes over the last 2 weeks and got back an offer to interview from Pinnacle and 2 go-aheads to complete an employment application from PSA and Cape Air. But that's it!

I will be interviewing with Pinnacle the end of this month and am grateful that they extended me an interview. However, i'm more of a Corporate, Charter, Cargo kind of guy and am looking for tips, leads to make my application more successfull than just sending companies my resume.

I know that I'm fighting the following:
- High dual given (1700 as CFI) time
- 2 of my jobs were as a business owner (flight school and another biz)
- No recent flying job
- I think that companies might think that I won't stay long when they employ me based upon my Total Time and ATPL.

I do think I have a prospective employer something to offer, see above.

Does anybody have any ideas of what I can do so more prospective employers will be interested in me?

Any corporate departments out there?

I don't mind being a junior FO on a corporate aircraft. Even if it's only as an FO in a King Air for example that doesn't need to be flown but with 1 pilot. I'm not willing to fly for free or pay someone to fly. However, an entry level job like that is very acceptable, especially if there exists an opportunity to upgrade in the future.

Anybody willing to stick out their neck and get me on with someone?

Anybody?

Thanks everyone!

The offer still stands to run your resume into our HR department if you'd like. Send it to: abc_123 AT comcast.net. I can't give a personal recommendation since I don't know you, but I'd be happy to run it in to the appropriate people in our organization.

Steve,

Very much appreciated. I went ahead and mailed it to you. I am aware that you haven't guaranteed anything etc.

Thank you!

Alex
