Default Any Maine pilots???

Hey all just wondering if anyone here is in the southern Maine area, I live in Orlando now but spent 18 years in Maine and will be back to visit soon. I am checked out to rent from Maine Aviation @ PWM and was just wondering how the flying was up there and where I should fly while I'm there.

I flew to Sanford, ME on Friday for a solo cross-country. Nice airport in my opinion. Have you ever been there?

I've been to the airport when I was younger but I've never flown there. Where do you fly out of?

Ifly,

Got my private at PWM at Maine Aviation!

Lived in Cape Elizabeth at the time. Did my Night Cross country to Rockland... There's a nice museum on field. Did my other cross countries to MHT and ALB. Very cool flying over top of Mt. Washington and the Whites.... and just about anywhere on the coast is phenomenal. Did a lot of airwork over Old Orchard Beach, and Sebago Lake.

I would suggest BHB in the fall... the foilage is wonderful... and lot's of lighthouses around to do "Turns abound a point"!

Maine was the best flying I've ever experienced from a purely asthetic point of view.

You pretty much can't go wrong where ever you decide to go up there.

I got my PPL out of Maine Aviation several years ago. The flying up the coast is great. I did my long x-ctry from Portland to Bar Harbor to Machias and back to Portland. Also got an opportunity to fly with my CFI on a pipeline patrol through the mountains and up to Quebec, which was an awesome experience. A buddy of mine is going back this summer and teaching at a seaplane school, and I'm going to try to go up there if I get a chance.

Spent 6 summers in Maine. Flew into PWM a bunch. If its possible to get sick of eating lobster, when in town, you guys gotta go to Ray's Hot Dog stand...He grills them suckers for you, sooo good

I'm originally from NH, my family still is there and I have a brother living in RockLand, ME. As far as flying up there goes BE Careful, the WX can and does change rapidly, a lesson I learned almost at the expense of killing myself and my brother. Each geographic area has its own characteristics, pay attention to what the "locals" can tell you.

bigs,

Who was your instructor at Maine Aviation? Was it Johann? He used to take me on the pipline patrols as well... very fun trip. I guess they just went to the senior flight instructors so you may have had someone else... just thought I'd ask. I was there in 2001.

Is your buddy going to Twitchells?? I'm thinking of heading up there for my seaplane rating... and if I remember right... Junior's got an "in" there.

Junior, How's Colorado/McAir trating you?? It looks like you got a few guys under you in seniority now so hopefully things are going well!

BHB here. I live on Mount Desert Island. Certainly head up this way if you get the chance. Rockland also has some great offerings and is pretty close to the airport.

If you need any info feel free to PM me.
