Default Jobs in Chicago???

I will be getting my A&P certificate in August of 2010. I wil be 23 years old and ready to get a job. I really want to move into Chicago and try to get an aviation job in the area. (Perhaps O'Hare or Midway) I've checked the airliners websites and their either not hiring or I would need at least 3 years of expierience. I find it hard to belive that there is not one job for a starting A&P in the entire city. I just don't know where to look. Does anyone know about any FBO's or small reginal airlines I could work for and still live in the city?
Thanks.

Mesa and Trans-States Airlines may be hiring mechanics. Some FBO's are still hiring but you would have to search the airport's websites for FBO info and find their numbers. Try to find something that you can build experience and you can go from there. Even though it may be GA, it will help you when you want to find something in the airline or regional jet industry. This is all about experience and that is what matters in the field. You will still get training, but when you are able to get another job that uses the same type of aircraft that you have worked on, you may have the advantage in the interview.

Good luck. These days the market is saturated here. United in ORD has mechanics furloughed back to 1991. I'm a furloughed mechanic now a pilot. Many flight departments have closed up here. I still work part-time as an A&P because, apparently, being an F/O doesn't pay much. I run into many guys with tons of experience that are looking for anything to pay the bills when I work at all the Chicago airports. There might be some out there but you have to know people to get them. You're young, join the service and tour the world and get the experience working military acft. When you're done, you'll be in a better position because I don't think it'll get better anytime soon anywhere.

BigDrew 2 years ago regionals were looking for mechanics like crazy. But sadly the economy is in the gutter and most regionals arenot even hiring mechanics (Or just about anybody). But who knows things mightimpprove at that time. I suggest you go to www.jsfirm.com It's a good place to check out. I am there usually on my off days

Good luck
