I know some people who took a lot of action that backs up what was said on the internet.

Voting in a union to increase their own work rules and pay? If that's what your referring to, it's not what I was talking about.

Then what are you talking about?

Many of us on here decided we were not happy with our company being unrepresented so we acted on it, twice, finally with the results most of us wanted.

No, you're right, boys. What was I thinking? When it comes to your family, its perfectly all right to scab. Never mind the families of the guys whose jobs you're willing to take when you cross that picket line.

I'm talking about the complete lack of individual sacrifice that actually occurs in defense of other people's jobs. That's what Velo is talking about, RAH pilots should sacrifice themselves, their jobs, their financial welfare, whatever it takes in order to protect Midwest jobs. Yet it never happens, ever. I'd love to set up a test where Velo's bank account is low, he can't walk right into a new job, and a family member is depending on his health insurance and see how quickly he shows some "pilot unity" to protect jobs at another airline. But it's just my opinion against Velo's word on what would actually happen.

It's all lip service, it always has been, it always will be. Sure pilots will take action when they personally benefit (forming unions, striking for pay or work rules, defending their own jobs or career opportunities), but no one goes to the mat for their "brothers and sisters". Everyone votes in their own best interest, no matter how much chest-pounding happens online.

So my point, now that I've had two excuses to rant uncontrollably, is that the person I was originally responding to can safely ignore all of this internet pissing-match crap if it bothers him, he won't hear this stuff in similar porportions out in the real world(i.e. in every single discussion about any airline growing), and live in peace and happiness in just about any career path and career decisions.

That's why you go to McDonald's first. I assume as a big time captain, you can read.

...and those guys have just as much ability as I do to go to Micky D's or Wal Mart. If they can't and they're out of options, I'd hope they do whatever they need to do to feed their family.

If it came down to my kids starving or crossing a picket line, it's an easy choice. While that may not live up to your moral standards, someone willing to let their family starve doesn't live up to mine. If you are willing to let your family go hungry just so you can stay up there on your pedestal on the other side of the picket line, I'd find you just as disgusting as you'd find me if I crossed.

Personally, I just hope I'm not in a position where money is so tight that my kids might go hungry.

PS
Did I call it, or did I call it? Predictable. Nice job velo. You never disappoint.

No one is so out of options they "have" to scab. You won't go to McD's and you know it. You'll cross. You've made that clear.

I'm not the kind of person that has to fly. They're out there. I can be just as content going back to insurance sales. No other options, yep...I'll do what I need to do to pay the bills for my family. Period.

Anyone that claims otherwise is a liar or a waste of cells.

Why don't you just nut up and say, "Hell yes, I'd scab." It would be more honest.

If I couldn't find a job at McDonalds or WalMart or anywhere else. Sure. Anyone that says otherwise is a liar.

I don't need to ITG it. If you can sit around on your moral high ground and let your family go hungry, more power to you. I can't and won't do that. I'll get a job wherever I can.

Maybe the sarcasm wasn't obvious enough.

BTW, when have you ever had to make a decision like this republic guys are making? You always had an out. I'm done with this thread, typical Velo BS when it comes to labor relations. Dude, you've got some good info on a lot of subjects, but the stuff that comes out of the computer when you talk about GoJet/Republic/MidWest/Allegiant/etc. is just crazy.

I think you should leave Sarah for me. Emily and I have been looking for a brother husband, and you'd fit in pretty well.

You ever gonna come out skiing?

The way I took what he was saying is that he would scab if that were the last and final option but for it to get to that point is almost impossible. I think he was saying that he would gladly work any other job if it meant he didn't have to cross a picket line. He was just saying that his family's well being comes before anything. Even our beloved pilot profession.

Do you think that bus drivers or dental assistants have message boards where they get on and rip on everyone who went to work for a certain company or because their management screwed some other company over or because they got their job too young and inexperienced? For some reason I don't think so. I think it may have something to do with the amount of days off we get combined with the alcohol.

That's what I got, too, but I guess some people only see what they want to see. If you're willing to work at Wal-Mart or McDonald's before crossing a picket line, well, the odds of actually having to cross that line are pretty slim since most restaurants are almost always hiring dishwashers.

Not my words, but from the other thread...
"From what I heard, the ramp up in the AirTran operation has forced a resolution. The REP operation is being eliminated. All Midwest flights to be operated by DAL/NWA/DCI, with frequencies being increased to meet the competition.
DCI? Great. Now I'm gonna have start defending myself for not outright quitting, too.....

I guess that's the difference between Min, Pprag and me. I wouldn't cross a picket line to SHOP in a store undergoing a strike much less scab.

They would.

I just can't believe they both admitted it.

It would be interesting to watch your conversation with your kids about why they have to go live with your brother while you and your wife move into a homeless shelter. Or how you explain your principles to your wife who's chemotherapy can no longer be afforded because an extra 76 seat jet in on property.

Extreme cases, but that's all that min and pp were talking about. But if we're talking about the hypothetical extreme cases where every single option has been exhausted and you still throw your family under the bus out of loyalty to a union, then I question how honest you're being, and I sincerely hope you never have to make a choice harder than pounding your chest on the internet, and I'm glad I'm not a member of your family.

But like I said before, it's the internet, this is what boys do on the internet, everyone can ignore it and live a happy peaceful life if you want.

[ mod hat off ]

That's exactly the way that I read it as well.

There are people that would rather take statements like this out of context to attempt to give gravitas to their extremist agenda though. *shrug* It's really better to just point out the inconsistencies in a factual manner and move on. Highly emotional responses to those kind of posts just encourage them. It 's the old "any publicity is good publicity" fallacy at work.
