I have been on furlough for almost 5 months now and the cash.. well let's say there is no cash now ... and I saw today GoJet start to hire again, so should i follow my pilot pride and not apply for them ( we all know the reason ) or just "fly for food" and contribute to dig a bigger hole for the pilot group in the whole industry....off course I know somebody else is going to take the job...maybe the question will be how much is going to hurt flying for Gojets in my Carree? I already know a bunch of capt denied jump seat to GJ pilots how is going to look my resume with GJ in it? any ideas or maybe somebody in the same dilemma by the way I dont want to offend or hurt anyone feelings will be interesting to hear from GJ pilots their opinion |

The fact that you're even asking this question should be reason enough not to.. How bout don't and say you did.

Have you considered your options outside of aviation? You could probably make more money doing almost anything other than starting off at 1st year F.O pay again. If you want to stay current you can instruct on the side. I wouldn't recommend prostituting yourself to Blowjets.

If you already know the answer, why are you asking the question? Please, oh please use the search option at the top right. Type "GoJet" and you'll get a multitude of answers to all your questions. Every aviation message board has countless threads on the pros and cons of GoJet. The information has been laid out many times...Maybe a 1 day life-span for this thread?

Eh, nothing wrong with revisiting a topic every now and then. But I don't think skyhawk's going to get the free pass he's hoping for in this thread. GoJets or not... if it really is the $$, there's just gotta be something better out there than 1st year FO pay. |

I will say nothing else but this; I thought people were BSing when they stated that GJ pilots turned their badges around. Today I counted four GJ pilots with their badges intentionally backwards at FS in STL.... if that doesn't say something what does/would?

Mesaba, Colgan, and Great Lakes are hiring right now. None of those have the same stigma in the industry as GoJet. Look at other options first.

How do you know they were intentionally backwards? Did you ask them? How would you differentiate an accidentally backwards ID from an intentionally backwards one? Pretty difficult to judge one's intentions visually. And to evaluate the statistical significance of your observation, how many GoJet pilots did you see with their IDs facing outward?

I witnessed the same thing at FS in St Louis. St Louis FS has a ton of E145 sims, so "that" airline is always there. For one people wouldnt say hello to you until they saw your badge. It was pretty obvious why that was. I personally tried to keep my badge showing. Most of the Republic guys there where former Colgan guys and loved to talk to us to see how things where going. One time my roommate and I where in the room with the paper tigers. You had a CRJ / Saab / E170 and E145. It was us and another airline in there, no not TSA either. When a bunch of guys from "that" airline walked by and snuck their heads in, the guys from the other airline in the room started literally harrasing them, telling them to get out of the room and go down the hall to the other room where scabs where supposed to be. Again, it wasnt guys from TSA or Colgan. Im not saying it was right, but Im saying its the treatment they get. No wonder they wear their badge the wrong way. Being in Dulles you have many UAX guys. Colgan/Shuttle/Chautauqua/TSA/GJ. There is a particular pilot group you never see just hanging out, like you do with the other guys. You go past Familiga, Five Guys, Dunkin Donuts, Fuddruckers, etc. You will see all the UAX guys represented, all except one airline. They know there is a stigma, they know there is no pride in showing their badge, they know that people look down on them. One of the biggest reasons I dont like that airline was a comment made by one of their pilots. A few of our guys where down at the laundromat in STL, and a GJtter was there. They got to talking and he made this comment "Yea, we are hiring, but our sister company is furloughing." And he still didnt seem to get it. It should also tell you something when a place like GJ is hiring street captains, yet many guys STILL choose to go to Colgan and fly props instead.

ID's were not on lanyards... they used a simple clip device.... impossible for it to accidentally "turn around." I think if you were to visit this facility you would see what I mean. As far as GJ pilots with ID's face outward if I were to take a guess..... 7-8.... (granted I didn't see a lot of their pilots over the course of a day but I was told by my sim instructor to keep my badge on and attempt to keep it visible at all times when in FSI... I think it may have something to do with security.... even folks without airline ID's have a FS generated one).... so when you see someone with a badge on turned backwards it sticks in your head. You guys can fight all you want about the legitimacy of GJ.... I just wanted to say that I didn't believe the fact that some of their pilots turned their badges..... and now I do. | |

Even with a lanyard, you can intentionally turn it facing backwards. I know I'm not the only one with a lot of crap on my lanyard. All I have to do is flip the ID around on the clip to where it faces the rest of the crap on the lanyard (CRM checklists, duty regs, etc) and you couldn't see the ID no matter how the wind blew it.

Fair enough man. . .fair enough. Just old. Might as well just have a forum for members only who can just go in and rant and rave about the same old topics that come up every 17 days, lol.

I heard some great advice. Talk to Gonzo, he's got a couple of crash pad mates that are presently at GoJets and they'd be more than happy to talk to you about their first hand, every day experiences. Oddly, no one ever takes him up on the offer!

PM me if you want info on GJ. This id thing is a little ridiculous I don't think anyone manually flips their ids around, besides what is the point, everyone knows what a GJ id looks like in ORD and IAD.

Sorry, but I'm still convinced the TSA MEC shot itself in the foot over the UAX CRJ700 flying, instead of doing the smart thing and taking some short term pain for long term gain. Of course, I'm one of those annoying, analytical skeptics who pretty much discounts out-of-hand anything I hear 2nd or 3rd hand without independently verifiable substantiating evidence, so your mileage may vary.

Aloft, are you at gojet?

| Old Skool | Your correct. I meant to say CRJ7 sims. STL has CRJ7s, CRJ2, E147, E170, Saab etc... And I did say that I didn't condone their behavior, but why would you want to go to an airline where you would have to put up with that type of stuff, knowing full well about it before hand?

This is a fact. GOJet also does their ground school in a different FSI building in STL than other airlines. There is plenty of room in the main FSI building in STL but they bring them to a way out of the way satellite building.
