Default Coast Guard Aviation

Folks:

I have to admit that I am a bit ignorant when it comes to the military, more specifically the Coast Guard. I don't know where to begin here, so I'll just ask the rather stupid question of "how does one become a pilot for the USCG?"

I'm putting some serious thought towards the USCG because I like what they do. I also think my love of the sea also something to do with it.

Anyhow, back to original question. I did some hunting around on their website and apparently they have this program called "Blue-21 Guaranteed Flight Initiative." Can someone please explain what that is?

Thank you!

Blue 21 Flight Initiative

I've also thought the program looks interesting but I'm not sure that my school has a 25% minority population.

Yeah, I read that. What I would like is more information beyond what the website says. For instance, how competitive is it?

Good luck. I looked into it. The problem is that there are very few schools that fit the criteria. I talked to a recruiter about it, and it didn't sound like it was a very big program. I would guess it would be worth a shot though. The coast guard isn't a bad deal.

Not sure of the program, but what I do know of CG Aviation is you get a commission then they assign you based on the needs of the service. The only guarentee that I know is the Direct Commission Aviator program for transferees from other services. Good Luck

The Blue 21 program is a guaranteed pilot slot immediately after OCS. It's brand spanking new. Not even the recruiters know too much about it.
