Sorry, thats 270 TT and 44 Multi. I've got an appointment on Monday with the local AFR recruiter. Pretty excited to go and talk to him. Anyone know what kind of flight time you build while in the training portion and after you get to your base? I'm hoping to get on with a "Heavy" base. I think flying the Herc would be an awesome job. Any info on the how the process works would be appreciated.

You will get about 250-ish hours during SUPT. It will all be turbine, but sadly none of it will be PIC turbine (okay, the solos will...).

I would hope that "time building" is not the sole (or even majority) goal of your pursuit of a Guard/Reserve job like this.

And for flying on a "heavy" base, here is what a popular UPT blog guy wrote recently who guard bums for a C-130 AFRC unit:

Quote:
I looked at my hours the other day and I have been averaging about 400 hours a year as a C-130 bum, if any of you are heading that way that's probably about what you can expect +/- 50 hours or so.

Hacker, I want to get a reserve/guard slot so I can have a steady job and a second retirement when the time comes. The hours are just a bonus. I currently work at FedEx and I can't tell you how many pilots do reserve/guard in order for that second retirement. They've all been telling me I should look into it and to start there. Everything sounds pretty good so far, guess we'll see how things go on Monday.

Tread very carefully in this area when you are interviewing for jobs. "Steady Job" and "second retirement" are probably not the correct answers when you are asked why you are trying to get the SUPT slot at an ANG/Reserve unit.

I agree that there is a lot of "safety net" that is afforded by having a Guard or Reserve job, but be aware that it is not an easier alternative to trying to get a regular active duty SUPT position. It is just as difficult, but it different ways.

Either way, best of luck and I'll be happy to help however I can (my knowledge is limited to the pointy-nosed community, unfortunately).
