http://www.gocoastguard.com/cspi.html Anyone have any experience with this? Anybody know anybody who did this? EDIT: I should add, in case you didn't figure it out, for the US Coast Guard.

Looks like a good deal, similar to what the navy has. The air force tried a program like this but slashed it after a trial run. A friend of mine did it for the air force and they enlisted him as an E-3 but he didn't have to go to basic, it was just so he could get the pay.

Yeah doing a little research I see you do enlist and attend basic training for the Coast Guard's program. You get E-3 and then you attend OTS after graduation. Sounds like an interesting challenge!

I am currently in the Coast Guard and have several friends who completed the program. It really is a great program and a super deal if you are selected. What exactly do you want to know about it?? The main goal of this program is for the CG to increase the number of minorities in the officer corps, so there is the requirement that your college must have a student body which consists of at least 25% being minorities. This however does not mean that if you are not a minority you will not be picked up.

| Old Skool | Is this the one where you have to go to a school that's 50%+ minority? I know Blue21 was like that. What a crock.

Yeah the requirement for this program is the same as Blue 21 (excpet for the aviation stuff) and actually the number is greater than 25% not 50. Obviously the CG can't come right out and say "hey if you're a minority we'll hire you to be an officer." So they set up these programs hoping that more minorities will apply. Not that I have any problem with minorities, I am one myself (didn't come in through CSPI or Blue 21), but have you ever met any of these guys from the CSPI or Blue 21 program?? Some of them are squared away, but sadly most of them in my class absolutely did not belong there. I don't know if this is true for other classes but wow were they a mess in my class.
