| Senior Member | If you got accepted into the air national unit for flight training would you be doing the Air Force flight training? Also do you know if the same vision requirements are required for the air national guard. I know 20/20 corrected but I am talking in terms of refractive errors. |

| First thing, you will go to Officer Training to get commisioned in the USAF. You will do this one of two ways, AMS(Academy of Military Science) 6 weeks in Knoxville, TN, or OTS(Officer Training School) 12 weeks in Alabama. Once you graduate and get your 2Lt Butter Bars you will be rolling into Pilot Training soon after. Pilot training is in one of four places; Laughlin AFB (Del Rio, TX) Columbus AFB (Columbus, MS) Vance AFB (Enid, OK) Sheppard AFB (TX) -For Smart Kids and Foreigners You will go through with Active Duty pilot candidates, but the sweet thing is that you are not competing for an aircraft. You already know what your flying and you know you just need to pass, obviously you wouldn't be here if you weren't competitive, but its a comfort that reduces stress. More info can be found here...http://www.baseops.net/militarypilot/ Now for your eyesight, Last I heard and I just finished Pilot training in April 07, the requirements were 20/20 corrected, max 20/80. They typically don't care what happens to your eyes once you get past the rigorous flight physical. If your eyes are worse than the mins, there are alternative ways to get yourself where you need to be to pass the eye tests. If you need more info just PM me. Anyways thats the quick and dirty, if you have any more stuff you need answers on feel free to shoot me any questions and I'll be happy to answer or find out for you. I am a recent grad of the program so its pretty fresh. Hope this helps! Good Luck |

| Hey ANG135 welcome aboard. What unit are you with? To original poster...browse baseops.com forums, but don't post anything for at least a few months...seriously. Just keep reading old threads and all of your questions will be answered. If you still have questions, come back here and post them.

| Old Skool | YES. The ANG pilots have to be at Air Force standards with their initial flight physical. You can get a waiver recommendation from the highest medical level in the Guard, but it is up to the Air Force to approve it. I have personal experience with the State Flight Surgeon recommending a waiver for excessive refractive error and Brooks AFB not issuing the waiver.
