Default What is it?

Yo! I'm hoping someone can identify the aircraft in the attached picture. My Captain and I were flying alongside this puppy from Norfolk to about the Atlantic City area when we started our descent into JFK and he continued on at around FL270. We were thinking it might be a C-141, but then we thought that they had all been retired. Sorry for the bad angle, but were 4,000 feet below him. Thanks in advance!

Ok, I should know this.... but how are you telling the difference between a C-5 and a C-17 from that picture? Aspect ratio?

I have not had the opportunity to ever study both together or for any length of time for that matter.

No, but sometimes it's hard to see them in rear shots from the bottom.

I just havn't seen much in the way of shots of C-17s either... but that's mainly my own fault as I'm sure there are tons of them on airliners.net. C-17 would appear fatter and shorter as well wouldn't it?

Yep, and the main gear pods are shaped differently, too.
