I was wondering if it was possible to get an associates degree while serving 4 years active on the Navy? Has anyone done it? I want to, but do airlines really want a bachelors? |

I did my A.S. while stationed at Pearl Harbor. You can also take classes onboard a ship and they will transfer to a college once you get to a shore duty base. Every base will have some college that teaches classes. Some will have more than one. Easily Done. You will get out of the Navy what you put into it.

FREE!!! Tuition assistance will cover the cost of your schooling up to a certain amount per quarter. If you go over that amount you can use your GI bill "top up" which will take the amount you are short and supplement that with your GI Bill. In my experience, i usually take 3 classes per semester, i am not too overloaded and my tuition assistance has covered every dollar at a cheap local college. Go with a nice innexpensive local college and then if you want you can transfer your credits to a more well known university and finish your degree with them. This does not really matter though because as long as the college is accredited it doesnt really matter where you got it from, a degree is degree no matter where it is from or what it is in. Just because you have a BS in underwater basket weaving at Santa Cruz Community College does not make you any less qualified than someone who is applying for the same aviation job that has a degree in Aeronautical Sciences at Harvard. Impressive, yes. Required, no. It is a check in the box and your flying qualifications and more importantly who you know will get you the job.

Yeah I did it. It was really hard because I was on an aircraft carrier and the internet was only for E-5 and above. Half of the time the internet worked and the other half it didn't, but I didn't let that stop me. My friend got me started and I finished before him. Hope you do well!

Seems as if many now are receiving significant college time while in the military. Generally speaking, the Air Force has the edge in available time, but any branch can provide time for college.
