I've been thinking all these years, but never really got into it. My plan probably would be to follow the civilian route (local FBO, then instructing, regional etc. eventually major). Nevertheless, I never really "got into" the military thing. This is my story of being skeptical of following the military path. I am in college now. But back in the day (long story) I was in a "Western Cadet Band" in an Asian country called Sri Lanka. It wasn't only a marching band but also it had basic military training (not with guns) But just excessive exercising, military ranks (among the students), and a military rate high degree decipline, dress codes etc... I hated it because I didn't like being bullied by the big guys and show emmense respect to them. I was so tired after practice and didn't have time to do homework. I felt like I was trapped. So I eventually quit saying the hell with it. I didn't last for more than 4 months, but after I quit I saw those guys running in short shorts and do their thing and eventually start playing as a band. It looked cool but not for me as like many who didn't last. That is why I was well "scared" of following the military path. In high school I talked to an airforce officer and discussed about my plans. His first question was about my eyesight, which is not perfect but corrected to 20/20 by lenses. I didn't research about this, but thought that military pilot's need to have 20/20 without the aid of glasses or contacts. But besides from that, I'd like to hear some opinions of people here. Like what are my options. How can I go about making as a military pilot? Perhaps I made the wrong choice of quitting the cadet band. To be honest if I could go back I would not have quit, because if I stayed by the time I was a senior I would be the one who would be bullying the youngsters.

You will find that the military, and the military marchind band will differ a lot, obviously. You need to get on baseops.net, looka round, search, and ask around. There is no straight answer I can give you, other then compling all the necessary info, and spending a lot of time going through it,and making the best decision. So many people have an altered view of the military, and the lives we live. I suppose this can be attrivuted to hollywood, and stories from 'old timers". I wont go into a long explanation, as Im sure you can do some searches on this board, and the rest fo th einternet to find your answers. On quitting the band, only ou can answer that question. I quit junior high football, but when back to excell in High School, which enabled me to play in College, and 1 year of ArenaII. So it is totally up to the person
