Default Air Force height/weight regs.

Are the regs for the Air Force always the same? I'm in ROTC and this is a constant struggle for me. I've already lost 40 lbs in the spand of 7 months, however I still have a substantial amount of weight to loose to meet the regs. I've heard that the Air Force made its maximum allowable weight a lot lower udue to the conflict in Iraq, and that the AIr Force pretty much didnt care about being over a certain body weight for most of its history. Can anyone tell me if this standard will ever change? I'm doubting if this is a battle that I want to keep fighting

I'm in the Air Force right now and we just changed the fitness program. When I first joined 11 years ago it was if you were overweight they would measure your body fat percentage. I've always been over my weight by 10 to 15 lbs,but I always made my body fat. The max in the past for young adults was 20% now I think its from age's 18-29 is 24% ? I think you should head down to your local AF recruiter and get the facts because its always changing. At this very moment we have a PT regiment closer to the Army. Run 2 miles, rest do as much push- ups, sit- ups and do a stretch test for flexibility and all the data is input into a program that figures out your fitness age. Like I said this is a new program for us in the Air Force I'm not so sure about new recruits?? Good luck..The best advise I'm sure you are aware of already is eating the right foods and getting out and being active. Don't starve yourself to loose so much and feel lousy..you have an ideal weight.

We Americans have to change our eating habits just take a look at our society. I have boycotted all fast foods..I'm lucky cause I was never a burger person. You don't have to become a vegiterian just cut back on the meat and starch and eat more greens. I bet you'll fell better..sorry for the rambling.

Go for it!!

As far as I've seen the height/weight regs are pretty standard across the different branches. I know for my height they want me at a max weight of 184. This blows my mind because I havent weighed int he 180's since freshman year in highschool. I asked about bodyfat but was told they really wanted you under the weight. In fact I was told to drop about 10 lbs below max weight and then get ahold of em. I know what your thinking....I'm fat....quite the opposite is true I've just lifted weights for as long as I can remember. But the regs are regs so its off to the track for me.

You guys aren't reading the height weight charts correctly. I have been out close to a year now and I can still grow 3 more inches for my weight...

If worse comes to worse, just drop water for the weigh in. You can easily drop 10-15 pounds of water weight(safely). Hell I have dropped 20 lbs in 24 hours for a fight

haha, tell me about it. I dropped 6 lbs in the span of about 30 hours. I didnt eat a thing and drank water sparingly...it's not healthy but only a temporary thing...only problem was that I wasn't expecting a real PT session to go along with the weigh in, so I had to complete PT extremly dehydrated.

The worst of the AF's new fitness standard is that you can meet the height/weight AND body fat percentage standards, and your commander can STILL declare you "overweight" by nothing more than his own subjective visual assessment--and off to the fat-boy program (WMP) you go (with all the associated negative career consequences).

In layman's terms, the new USAF fitness program is all about looks, not fitness.

As it should be. It should be up to the individual to decide if (s)he's going to live forever. It's up to the individual service to ensure that you look good.

Looking good is 80% of height/weight standards.

It shouldn't be about looks at all.

I have known plenty of Recruiting Poster Children who had zero chance of pulling me out of a burning space on a ship. At the same time, I knew a bunch of fat @sses who could never pass the PRT that were much more useful in a damage control situation.

If it is about looks then there is something wrong, there could be someone pretty face who is 6'6, 6 pack abs, bench 450 lbs but won't know that the thrust levers go forward for takeoff, compared to someone who is a little over weight but knows alot about his careers, yeh I personally am NOT going to the AIr Force, or any type of program like that not because I don't want to support my country but I probally wouldn't be happy fueling aircraft while someone is flying them, just my opinion

Well It isn't a very effective way. We spend a ton of money to do what I did in the navy and I saw plenty of incompetent runners get promoted while the guys who were actually accomplishing the important missions were being persecuted or even kicked out for being a bit fat or slow to run an arbitrary distance. Hell a mile and a half isn't even a good test of fitness. I never jogged and I could pass it.

Bottom line:
Reason number 3 I was inclined to join the navy over the other branches: The image of the fat drunken seaman who seemed like a Sh&tBag but who was SH&thot at getting his job done. That was me man, or at least what I wanted to be. Now all the navy rage is "military bearing". All we are now is the post office with ships. The navy has changed so much in the 11 years I was in. I bet if you looked back 20 years the difference is even more startling. I don't know about the Air Force but height and weight, unless way out of control) don’t really mean a hill of beans on a ship. I can imagine it is different for you Marines (though you all drink like sissies) but it doesn’t really matter on a ship.

I knew you would like that MTSU! What are we drinking? I know a lot of you jarheads enjoy peppermint schnapps or would you prefer something a bit less hardcore? Maybe fuzzy navels or lemondrops? Maybe when you are ready you may care for a man's drink such as tequilla?
