Question.... For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to fly airplanes, especially airliners. This summer I finally earned my PPL, and am currently working on my instrument rating, and going to college full-time. I'm a junior right now, and will graduate in the spring of 2006, at which time I will devote all my time and energy to pursuing a flying career. Now, my first choice is to fly for an airline, but I've also been exploring the other fields of aviation (i.e. corporate, cargo etc.) Recently someone told me to check out the Air National Guard. I visited the website, but I couldn't really find much about flying careers. Anyone here know much about it? Requirements for pilots? Competitiveness of getting a flying bid? Thanks for any help/

The basic requirements for a ANG pilot slot are a 4yr degree, a very competitive PCSM score and a PPL which you have. Getting a pilot slot is very hard to get and for guard slots it's usually very difficult for someone off the street. They usually like to hire from within. Have you considered joining the unit and applying in couple of years from within. You can gain some valuable contacts in the unit from within. Do you know what airframe you want to fly? |

The ANG is no good for you. Especially the unit in Colorado or Toledo or Springfield Ohio. ...or the one in Jacksonville. Stay away, at least untill i get in. ![]() Seriously, in my opinon its the best gig in the military. very hard to get into though, especially off the street. I have been planning my way in for the past 2 years and have a lot of info. If you want some, give me a email at propilot@dropzone.com and i will respond with my phone number, id be happy to give you all my objective and subjective thoughts on it :} |

Check out the military forums ... you may get some questions answered there ... www.baseops.net is full of good info ... and me too ... I've been enlisted for 4 1/2 years and have a UPT slot in the ANG.
