Default CRJ-900 Checkride passed!!

Just wanted to pass along that I passed my CRJ-900 SIC check for Mesaba, Monday morning. I was pretty confident but nervous going into the checkride. My goal was to not have to "redo" anything during the checkride. So, the checkride was going fine until I got to the single engine ILS, which I had done with no problem in previous sim sessions. The approach was kinda "wishy washy" towards the end, and even though I landed it in the touchdown zone the examiner was like, "ehh..lets do that one again, ok?" At that point I was like "Dangit!" But, the next one was right on. I guess that was a bit of a shot to my ego, oh well. The training was(is) in Denver at CAE and was very good in my opinion. I have LOFT on Saturday and then we'll see when IOE is, hopefully no more than 2 weeks away.
Thanks to all of the great advice and info from the people on this site. It really helped. Asking a lot of questions, taking notes and having a GOOD attitude will definitely help take you a long way. That was very evident to me during the sim training

Well, from what I understand, on the SIC check if the examiner wants you do something again for something that was unsatisfactory, then if time permits you can sort of have a "re-train" right then and there. He said I would have passed with the first one, but wanted to see me do it again anyway. So hey, whatever......im glad thats over with.....

Man, this is what I forgot to write about. Take it from me. You DO NOT need a CRJ prep course if you can help it. I also was seriously considering doing a CRJ prep course too. Trust me you dont need it. Save the money if you can. Now, it probably will help you get the job but I didnt do one, and I dont have "high time". I came from flying steam guage airplanes and this is my first all glass plane. The training was fun and yeah it was a lot of info at once, but its nothing that you cant do with some effort and work. Its fun too, I had a great time. Yeah there were some things that I was a little slow on at first, but I just stuck with it and it was no problem at the end, though I still have a lot of learning to do. But just trust me, you DO NOT need to drop 6K for an a RJ course. If you can get in without it, then do that. Just listen, and have a positive attitude and you'll be good to go.
O and Mesaba sends the 900 guys to either Montreal (Bombarbier) or Denver (CAE) to do the 900 training. I think they just got a 900 sim in MSP so hopefully thats where the training will be once it gets up and running.

On my SIC check, I had to redo my NDB. I flew the approach just fine (full procedure), but after I got the runway in sight and took over visually, I wound up getting a GPWS warning at night so had to go around. Not a big deal, I got vectors back around for another approach and landed just fine. The GPWS starts going off if the VSI is > 1000ft per minute, and the normal rate of descent for my plane at max landing weight is about 800fpm for a 3-degree glidepath, so there's not much margin for error. Anyway, the check airman wrote it up as a "repeated maneuver" on my PC, which I'm not really sure why since I made the right call and went around; I didn't think that constituted an unsatisfactory or repeated maneuver, and there was no retraining involved or anything. But whatever, the end result was that I passed. Congrats to you!

Thanks a lot! And yeah, that thing will go off, if you are coming down too fast, no doubt about it....

If you say so. Dont really think that I should have to explain myself, because I surely am not the only one, and wont be the last. If anyone had that opportunities that I did at my time they would have surely taken it. Its not like I didnt want to fly freight or instruct more. But, the opportunity presented itself, and I took it.

Hey Stan, thanks a lot! You know to be completely honest. Eagle was my #1 choice. I even called Karen Floyd and told her that you told me to call with interest......never got a call back. I kinda wanted that MIA base to fly the ATR, but hey it all worked out....
