| First XC Solo! I am now one step closer to my PPL. I took my first XC solo yesterday. My flight was in an Evektor SportStar. A fun little plane that only burns 5 gph.
KVDF - KBCT - KAPF - KVDF (4.3 hours)
I can say one thing for sure. Florida has many different looks. My flight took me over swamps, lakes and even some lush tropical areas in Boca Raton. I even flew 30 miles along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
I only used the "I'm a student pilot" card once in Boca. I stumbled a few times reading back instructions. After departing I apologized and he said, "Don't worry, we'll take care of you".
The Naples controller had me turning all over the place trying to put me behind some traffic. I was straight in and he had me turn north to follow I-75 because someone said they were to the north. Well, they weren't. So, he had me turn south to follow a plane in. We were spaced pretty close and the other plane had barely got off the runway when I touched down. He had pleanty of notice I was coming in. I called him 10 miles out, he told me to call him back when I was 3 miles out.
It was a little bumpier and windy than I expected, but the landings were good and the clouds were high.
9 more hours to go... 2 instrument and 3 night are my only instructor requirements left. I'm trying to talk him into some night/instrument combo flying. |

| Re: First XC Solo! Odd, I just did my first solo x-country yesterday here in Texas. Flew from Weiser (EYQ) to college station (CLL). Only 1.7 hours, but it was only the second time I've done any tower work so I was a bit nervous. But I chair flew it for 3 hours the day before and I had it down pretty good. Overall everything went well and I also feel a step closer.
Congrats on the job well done.

| Re: First XC Solo! Congrats to both of you! Seems like a popular weekend for first solo XC, I did mine yesterday also. It was so much fun, I loved being in control and having nobody to fall back on! Went from TTN(Trenton) to WWD(Cape May). It took me 2.2 hours total. I flew right next to Philly's Bravo and then Atlantic City's Charlie airspace so I used flight following. I think I changed frequencies 5 times down and 6 times back. It made me happy to fly out of a controlled field. |

| Re: First XC Solo! Very exciting to read all of your stories! The solo XC phase is one of the most exciting times that you will ever experience in an airplane. Take it all in; maybe even take some time to type yourself up a little story about it that you can read and share years from now when you are a crusty old 5000+ hour flyer
Congratulations on your progress!

Congratulations on your progress! | Exactly why I am starting a blog as soon as I start flying!

Congratulations on your progress! | Yeah, I saved my flight plans and I wrote some highlights in my log book. I am currently looking on Liveatc.net to find my calls to Philly and Atlantic City approach. I took a few pics while en route but it was really hazy so they look crappy. |

| Re: First XC Solo! Good Job. I am inching closer to my X-country training, so it inspires me to hear success stories. It sounds like you had some fun. Good luck on the rest of your training! |
