| Solo 2morrow Is it normal to be nervous as hell about soloing? As long as the weather cooperates, I will be taking the plunge (hopefully not literally) tomorrow. I have flown for 11 hours, but my instructor says I'm ready. I guess it's just that the newness of it all is still with me. I still don't feel at home up there, but I guess as long as I can get it safely on the ground, it's all good. Wish me luck! |

| Re: Solo 2morrow You da man! Congrats and good luck. Your CFI would never think about sending you up if he had any doubt in you. Just remember that plane is going to perform a whole lot better without the weight of someone else. Good luck man!

I soloed at right around 11 hours, I think. Ditto what FiveO said about performance. That sucker is gonna LEAP up to pattern altitude before you know it, especially if you fly a 152.
You'll be fine. Just remember your procedures and to fly the plane.

| Re: Solo 2morrow Good luck and have fun! It is a great time! Once you are alone in the aircraft the nerves will subside and excitement will take over.
The plane really does perform much better solo. My instructor is on the 200+ side and when he hoped out the plane seemed to jump of the runway.
I feel inferior, I did not solo until around 23 hours. |

| Re: Solo 2morrow It will be a day you remember forever. I was nervous until I started the first takeoff roll. Then I was busy flying the pattern, and forgot about being nervous. You will love every second of it. Good luck. |

| Re: Solo 2morrow Ditto everything else that has been said. Most important, be confident in your abilities, your CFI certainly won't climb out of the plane if you aren't ready. Its okay to be nervous, but I'd recommend using that nervous energy to help you concentrate. Focus the energy on performing perfectly.
Spend tonight "chair flying." Go through the whole procedure as if its happening right now. You will be very excited tomorrow once you get up there on your own!
Remember the day - its a HUGE one. Congratulations!

| Re: Solo 2morrow Sorry everyone, I've been on shift for the past 2 days and didn't have time to update. The winds did not cooperate so we had to postpone to another day. I was supposed to try again today but the winds are forcast 15kts, with gusts to 23kts. I swear, the wind never calms down up here! So I'm looking at Tuesday or Wednesday next week. I just want to get this done so I don't have to sweat any more.... |

I have no idea what he is going to write. 7 knots crosswind is probably about right. I've done fine with the crosswind. It's when it's gusty that I tend to have problems. I handled 20kts that other day (rwy 19, approx 187degrees, and the wind was from 230), so I think I could handle it. But I'm sure the instructors want to be absolutely sure you're not going to crack up the plane. Looking like Tuesday's the day, we'll see what the winds do... |

| Re: Solo 2morrow I think when I first soloed was the most nervous on the ground while taxiing to the runway. Once I started the take off roll my nerves went away and it was just like I had my instructor next to me. Try to solo in the morning or late afternoon when the winds are generally weaker.
Good Luck! |
