| Hired on with Mesa! I received the call this afternoon welcoming me to Mesa. I'm pumped! I know alot of negative has been said about Mesa and trust me some of those issues concern me too. However there were other factors at play, like being PHX based. I chose the Dash since they actually do day trips with it. I'll keep yall posted on what I think about Mesa
The interesting thing is, I have a buddy who used to work for another "good" regional and the guy who interviewed me also worked for another "good" regional who are now happy at Mesa. |

Phoenix is a senior base for MESA. I'm guessing getting based at PHX has something to do with flying the Dash.
My brother was recently hired on with MESA. He will be going off to Cincinnati Ohio next week to finish standardization training in the full motion CRJ simulator. Then he is off to Chicago's O'Hare where he will be based.
Congratulations and keep us posted on how everything goes. |

| Re: Hired on with Mesa! I hope those Dashes have good air conditioning. I remember on the ERJ in the summer in PHX the APU was overheating with both packs running on the ground! And the aircart was blowing hot air in like a hair-dryer.
Good luck.

Anyhoo... welcome. I don't know anything about the Dash - but if you have any other questions feel free to drop me a line. I was looking @ the list and there are a few newer new-hires that have PHX on the Dash, so hopefully you shouldn't have a hard time getting it as your base.

| Re: Hired on with Mesa! Sorry to be the dissenting opinion, but it's always amazing to hear people working for companies like this with all the bad background they have. If people would just stop applying for and accepting positions at these places, perhaps they'd change their practices.
Anyway, off my soapbox... I sincerely do wish you good luck and hope that it becomes a good thing for you. |

| Re: Hired on with Mesa! Wow, thanks for all the great replies!!!! I really was expecting a Mesa bashing session! Jetcareers definitely has class!!!! I couldn't ever imagining posting this on flightinfo or the others.
To answer some of the questions...I have about 4000TT current CFI. I interviewed on the 19th. Was given the choice of a/c for an April 7th start date or CRJ for May 5th. I would love to fly the CRJ, however with a family, I think the Dash is the best bet for QOL also alot of the crappy stuff with Mesa doesn't happen as much with the Dash. They did tell me I could upgrade to CRJ captain with my times within 6 months though. I need to get my TSA clearance so that may push me to the May 5th CRJ class.
Thanks again all!!!! |

Just be caution when companies tell you stuff like that. The majority of them are just blowing smoke up your tail pipe. I have heard that at 4 of my previous employers and never saw the left seat due to various BS.

| Re: Hired on with Mesa! GJT - best base for the Dash 8 - it's actually a pretty good deal if you can get GJT. ( I know you mentioned your family is in PHX )
One Dash 8 pilot I know, for the 3 years he's worked for Mesa - has never been on reserve, has never had less than 16 days off as a Mesa pilot and has never flown less than 80 hours a month - he's been based in GJT the whole time.
Only problem with the 6 month CRJ upgrade time - Mesa doesn't upgrade in seniority order it seems- you may get a CRJ captain award - but you only seem to go if you are already on the aircraft, if you have to switch airframes you just get heldback from training - there are so many held back ERJ and CRJ captains now, it's not funny anymore. I've been awarded ORD CRJ captain for almost a year now now, but no training date in sight as people junior to me are getting classes and Mesa has arbitrarily decided not to pay protect the "passed" over captains.
But good luck, welcome aboard, movement is fast though - I don't know of any other place where you can go from a 1800 seniority number to a 600 seniority number in 3 years.

Most part 121 jobs fall under category 1 clearances. You can expect 1-3 months for the final approval to train, assuming you already have fingerprints on file.
FYI from www.flightschoolcandidates.gov
Category 1 - Candidates who seek flight training in the operation of aircraft with a maximum certificated takeoff weight greater than 12,500 pounds, but who do not fall into Category 2.
Category 2 - Candidates who seek flight training in the operation of aircraft with a maximum certificated takeoff weight greater than 12,500 pounds, and who:
Are employed by a foreign air carrier that operates under 14 CFR part 1546;
Have unescorted access authority to a secured area of an airport under U.S.C 44936(a)(1)(A)(ii),49 CFR 1542.229;
Are a flight crew member who has successfully completed a criminal history records check in accordance with 49 CFR 1544.230; or
Hold an airman's certificate that is recognized by the FAA or appropriate US military agency, with a type rating for a multi-engine aircraft that has a certificated takeoff weight of 12,500 pounds or more.

| Re: Hired on with Mesa! Hey Pilot84,
We fall under Cat 1. Has Mesa even started your clearance process? We can start 30 days from fingerprint receipt from TSA. What ac did you pick and where u at now?
As far as the RJ upgrade..I just take it with a grain of salt! I've heard if it did happen it could take me a long time to get back to PHX. |

About TSA clearance, if you have applied clearance for your training / rating before, the process will be quick. However, my memory serves correctly, you are not allowed to start training until TSA approves.
